Who’s Playing Who

Why are you unhappy, what’s gone wrong,
is your story one long sad song?
Sit down beside me and tell me why
you look so sad, and about to cry.

Was your heart broken by lies and deceit,
or was it disrespect that got you beat?
Maybe you’re too upset to open up your heart,
it must be difficult knowing where to start.

I’ve got plenty of time to listen to you,
as any good friend really ought to do.
Perhaps tomorrow morning when we wake up
we can discuss it further over a coffee cup.

The Holy Land

I want to see the night sky from Bethlehem
and look at that bright star once again.
I want to wet my head in the River Jordan
at the place where baptisms were done.

I would like to swim in the Sea of Galilee
where the fishers of men used to be.
I would like to breathe the air at Gethsemane
and visualise the scenes from history.

I would like to feel my heart beat at Calvary
where Christ was crucified for humanity.
Visit Jerusalem and all its holy places
and see the joy on everyone’s faces.

Broken Hearts and Pride

Nothing can fill the emptiness
that you’ve created in my heart,
you took time to fill it with love
and just minutes to tear it apart.

Why did you waste your time
playing at love with me,
when you knew that our love
wasn’t meant to be.

I still find it hard to believe
how you were so two faced.
Whilst you were playing me,
I’d already been replaced.

Not only did you break my heart,
my pride has taken a fall.
When life’s cycle comes to bite you,
hearts and pride, you’ll recall.

Sleeping With A Memory

When my head hits the pillow
my memory opens up its door
and releases you into my mind
with memories once more.

I don’t want unhappy reminders
to upset my sleep and mind.
I’ve got to try and get over you,
and what you’ve left behind.

You’re even there in my dreams
breaking my heart again.
I can’t escape you day or night
you’re giving so much pain.

I know you’re not responsible
for what happens in my mind,
but will you please marry me,
so I can leave the past behind.

Remedy for the Severed Soul

You may think that there’s no possible way
that you can survive another lonely day.
The tearing apart of a time formed bond
that is so cruel and undeniably wrong.

But please weep not tears of a severed soul,
for crying won’t make the severed whole.
Think of sorrow as a troubled nights sleep,
and tomorrows as rest days from the bleak.

Consider the nights as stepping stones
where one remembers not being alone,
and as the light pushes the dark away,
your pain will ease with each passing day.

Boredom

Monotonous moments
numb my brain,
causing an inspiration
and emotional drain.

There must be better
things to come
that will replace
this horrendous boredom.

An exciting challenge
that’s so sublime.
An adrenaline rush
to blow my mind.

Perhaps I should change
my life’s fated path.
Do the unexpected;
cry instead of laugh.

Romance and Dance

Two tortoise were romantically talking,
not on all fours, but on their back feet.
Music came from the kitchen window
and they began dancing cheek to cheek.

They looked incredibly in love and happy
whilst in the vegetable patch they danced.
They stopped for a nibble on fresh lettuce
and then resumed their fine romance.

He said that she was such a lovely dancer,
and she replied that she was easily led.
He asked if she would like to dance a tango,
and she said, “Yes, but in the flower bed.”

Amen To You

Amen to you
my companion and friend,
there'll be no other like you
in this life again.

Amen to you
for your thoughts and consideration,
to the pleasure you've given
to every generation.

Amen to you,
for your sharing and giving,
for helping all others
from the humblest beginnings.

Amen to you
for your friendship and sincerity,
for your opinions and advice,
your truth, and honesty.

The Truth or a Lie

You asked me if I love you
and I said I didn’t know.
You said that you loved me,
but my feelings didn’t show.

Now, once again you’re asking
and I don’t know what to say.
I certainly like you very much,
but does my love flow your way?

There is definitely no other lover,
and I may even love you,
but I’m missing that flame of love
that burns so strong and true.

So I’m sorry I can’t say I love you,
no matter how hard I try.
I think the truth is going to hurt,
but it’s better than a lie.

A Love Happening Day

Are you sure that you love me
and aren’t making a mistake?
I’ve been a victim before
and suffered with heartache.

But if you’ve any doubts,
and you’d like to wait and see.
I’ll give your love every chance
just to see if it’s meant to be.

I’ll treat you as if I love you,
with respect and honesty,
and I’m sure love will emerge
in strength for you and me.

When you’re sure that you know
that love has come your way,
and you’re happy to declare it
we’ll celebrate a love happening day.
