My Beloved Is Mine And I Am His
Our future
just beyond reach
of the candlelight
somewhere in the dark
of this night
waiting for us
to be
the us we are
going to be.
The Future hold us
lightly in the palm
of its hand
just beyond reach

Burn Baby Burn!
Strips
her self
of her clothes
(those he had bought her)
burns them
in the garden
in an auto-da-fé
of him
everything burns
that had anything
to do with him.
She watches
her life with him

Drawing You
First, draw
a smile
then playing with the lines
transform them into laughter
let the laughter escape
the page
& fly around the room
let it alight on
anything it wishes
then delicately
take a pair of
sparkling eyes
until they too

Little Mona Lisa Smiles (for Ruthie)
We were always together
as much as weather
was
weather.
'Like two peas
in a pod...by God! '
as the man said
when he saw us
& laughed
his head off.
We only smiled
with little Mona Lisa smiles
seeing no one
but each other

Summer Lay Asleep...
Summer lay asleep
curled up in itself
dreaming that it
actually was
although it was only
another door
I opened
into my self
in search of a self
door after door
(this was the summer of 1964)
but when memory
had finally
tracked me down
it found
I had become

All These Years The Well Looks At The Moon
At the bottom of a well
lies a silver ring
looking up at a silver moon
lost now this past 50 years.
(She gasped as it slipped and fell
from her now too thin finger
after the birth...and death
of a baby girl)
and tears fell
as hopelessly she watched it fall
into a future
that a silver ring dreaming
of a silver moon
couldn’t possibly foretell

Family Outing
the old woman laughs
at the photograph of her
self
when she was 3
she waves a blur
that could be a flag
she is in pink
with a see-through pink umbrella
seahorses cavort
around its rim
she gnaws at the umbrella handle
teeth forcing their way through
(toothless now)

Your Love Is The Wind
YOUR LOVE IS THE WIND
Your love
is the wind
that passes
through trees
sets them murmuring
to themselves
the secrets of my heart
or the wind
in wheat
undulating across
fields
a golden sea

flames Of Water
The white white walls
of the swimming pool
are on fire
with the reflections
of the water
distorting our
every movement.
Flames of water
dance upon walls
as you emerge
from these Sunday waters
like a Venus
in a clinging wool costume.

The Eyes... Have It!
Eyes closed
we kissed
against as the sunset
only once
during this eternity
I dared to
open my eyes
to see if you closed your eyes
when you kissed
to see the flying scarlet
of your hair unfurled
against the sunset
like a banner of love
bleeding into the sky.
