The Go-Betweens

A glossy drape of ovate leaves
shield flowers quite exclusive.
They guard their wealth,
while round them weave
the insect throng intrusive.

A ring of incurved purple strands
compress gold pollen tips.
Pink petals, splayed as open hands
belie sealed nectar dips.

One species of bee,
wing tunes in key
and dancing blooms rejoice.
A resonating symphony
gilds couriers of choice.

Dominant

Hackled bulk and snarl assert
genetic whip hand bared, transfixing
sly usurpers prowling harem skirt.
Monkey leader's bluffs avert
reciprocated wounds, thus fixing
fittingness of troop displayed overt.
Females bearing babes are curt
to interlopers fixed on nixing
status quo, by seeking to subvert.
Yet DNA reverts inert
without a pinch of intermixing,
whence their disconcerting urge to flirt.

Pegasus

Lava gouts from the volcano's jagged neck,
hot and thick as a gorgon's blood
and snakes into the sea's cold check,
where seething baleful steam clouds scud.
Pale ashen horse heads for the stratosphere.
Flailing hooves split white moonbeams
scattering red and gold, sear shear,
for the morning and evening sun to glean.
Gentle sweep of noctilucent wings
filters moonlight, blue as fabled springs.

Quid Pro Quo

PRETEXT
Patriots persevere to
purge the occupying force.
Partisans are betrayed by
pragmatists playing the odds.
Power fluctuates in a
populace fragmented by
plotting and paranoia.

QUOTA
Qualms shadow liberation.
Quorums are hastily fixed.
Quislings quake in forlorn queues.
Quagmires of questions mute them.
Quick justice is dealt in the
quest to salve shattered lives and
quell the acid pain of rage.

Once Bitten (a trigee poem)

Somewhat unfortunately.........She toiled because of
the perfidious patisserie's....sugary dastardliness for those
sweet-toothed customers........with cavitied teeth
who were sorely suffering......with needles and drills at the surgery
due to over-indulgence, .......ironically thinking,
of cakes and pastries, ........that they kept her in bread and butter
were an ever-inflating problem...and earned her a crust.

Razor use denies our
Alienable bite right to

To a louse is deforestation.
Epilation rife. Respect lousy life.
R e v o l u t i o nary evolution was

Random tri-versification; tri-speciation.
Affirmation of the thrice-stationed fuz-cuz lice nation.
Pube, head and threads backchat. Hirsute human is our habitat.

Rondeau: Cycle

A little warmth begins a wave
which dances on a network stave
of neurons growing intertwined.
Soft oscillations, safe confined,
a nascent mind in new bone cave.

Instinctively a life will crave
a pulse in phase to gently lave
in harmony, and so to find
a little warmth.

Eventually a life must waive
the frame it can no longer save.
The pattern quivers unaligned,
electric ‘I' to heat resigned,
and flowing from the past enclave,
a little warmth.

Rondeau: Retrogressive

A sea squirt's life in larval state
is freely shaped to emigrate.
So nerve cord, tail and tadpole vim
allow one day and night to swim,
a precious chance to vacillate.

A simple eye to navigate
seeks vacant coral real estate.
The choice begins events which dim
a sea squirt's life.

The cord and eye dissociate,
ascidian will vegetate.
The oscillating heart in slim
reflection of life's former whim,
will alternate it's flow to sate
a sea squirt's life.

Swimming in Sand

DRY
Noon's Saharan heat
sears the yellow fringe-toed sand skink.
Stinging simoom beats
sword dunes swept in serried bands.
Lizard's plunge is fleet,
swims beneath saltating tanned brink.
Sinusoidal whip's
subterranean dip.

WET
Should one chance to meet
supersaturated sand sinks,
Glide their surface sheets,
spread the body's weight, expand.
Stay unsettled feet,
float the span to countermand links.
Stirred suspensions grip,
skimmed solutions slip.
