To the face in the mirror [Către chipul din oglindă]

How from your frame at me you stare
As if I am in danger,
Your eyes, amazed, query from there:
"Do you still know me, stranger?"

"You, ugly one, I know you not!"
Your face is pale and rigid
And your weird eyes are burning hot,
Their sight makes me feel frigid...

I know you were a crazy child
On wind and sunlight riding,
Your eyes were bright, your face was mild,
Your mouth was always smiling.

All Nature bowed in front of you
Fulfilling your desire:
Your palace was the wood, it's true,
The glade was your empire.

Moments of turmoil [Clipe de zbucium]

My love, I feel that you're so far away...
You've put your tiny hands upon my head,
But like a wall between us stand today
The memories of times that now are dead.

When my whole being craves you, it's in vain,
You remain still, your eyes stare in the night,
So many secrets full of grief and pain
Get lost in the deep darkness of your sight!

I hope my life will end, because I'm sad,
The wind of passion blows through the leaves green,
I ask to see the face that you once had,
Which until now I've never ever seen.

O, how I wish the pain was cured by time!
So many nights I've cherished it in vain,
I've sacrificed to it my years sublime
I've smiled... Only your heart has been my gain.

On the train [În tren]

It's racket, the train is ready to go
All sorts of weird strangers now get in the car.
It's seven and ten, my worries do grow,
I turn to the window, I'm feeling bizarre.
Hey, driver, go on, we've got rather bored,
It's time, blows the whistle, a rumor is heard,
I feel that is moving, O, help us, Good Lord!
The dark hasty shadows pass by like a bird.
The voice of the sorrow is silent right now,
I'm wiping my forehead, I'm squeezing my eyes
My soul seems to waver and I'm feeling low,
Hey, driver, go on, before my heart cries!
We're leaving behind, as we pass through the lands,
Tall signals, and switches, and cars, and white steam.
We see people passing, with flags in their hands,
While this shiny train goes fast like a stream.
Goodbye and farewell pretty town and dear friends,
Goodbye, my dear past, so sweet, but still vain!
At curves, when the train is creaking and bends,
I open the window and hail you again!

Rapid train [Acceleratul]

Over beeches rising high
The cold twilight gently falls.
The dumb evening passes by
And through forest quickly crawls.
At the sunset, in the dark,
One can see a ruby spark
Among branches thick and dull...
From the foliage thick retreats
Still are heard in this deep lull
Little birds that sing in tweets...
Cold and pale in the clear sky
Many stars now catch the eye.
***
Suddenly comes from the hills
Rumor deep, without delay,
Flat and very far away,
Like the whisper of a spring
Heading for the water mills...
On the floodplain starts to swing
Fills the other vales with thrills

Autmun night [Noapte de toamnă]

Murmur of eaves narrow, whispers full of harshness
Grow from all the places and get lost in darkness.
Seldom, through the curtains, light is quickly flying
The cold water mirrors before me igniting
And its ray, reflected, to my face is clinging...

Rain knocks at the windows, all the eaves are singing.
Step by step, the loudness of the rumor falls
Muffling the dull singing of these waterfalls.
More and more around me living shadows rise
Rain has stopped its falling from the leaden skies

And in piles of dark mists waters now are creeping...

Sleeps the world entire, all the eaves are weeping.
There, on the horizon, silver rays are though
On the vault of heaven showing beds of snow,
Slowly break the shadows, hang on branches tight
Blue and lovely sparkles, grains of shining light.
And right from the secret of the open sky

Separation [Despărţire]

Pass by small groups of willows, the poles are running fast
The white moon in broad daylight a look on us has cast,
The train over the meadows is flying like a dove,
With it in competition.... Farewell for good, my love!
Farewell, my Thought is sleeping and takes care of my soul...
Upon my hand I see now a ray that takes a stroll...
My neighbor stares in silence, but has a sleepy eye,
Upon a man's wide forehead is resting a small fly...
I feel behind, my darling, horizons changing place,
And that my wasted calling gets lost in time and space,
Your tears are falling gently upon my soul and brain
As on the withered wheat fields fall drops of chilly rain...
And in the sea of sunlight the nations smile at ease,
Behind, a man is running as swiftly as a breeze.
The ripe fields' yellow spinning allows us all to see
Blue chichories and poppies displaying a great glee...
If I could turn my being into a flower sweet
From this astounding running I'd throw it at your feet!...
And if for you, my darling, I gave up all unrest
And if I threw away now the letters in the chest,
