SONG On: Animal Love
There lived a girl called Lovina,
Whose animal-love was great;
Tall, she was and so much lean, ah!
She sang songs for a treat.
She had a sister, with whom she fought,
Right from her child-hood days!
Both were aged, a year’s diff’rence;
And so they fight-her mother says.
She did her home-work, in a short time,
Dreamt while her mother cooks!
In argument, she was so good,
And loved to read animal-books.
Once there fell down, a small Squirrel,
As she stood ‘neath a Mango-tree;
She laid it gently in a box,
The Squirrel-babe was no more free!

Nostalgic Memories of Doctors
We met; we read and played in one college;
We were so lucky to be Stanleans!
Those were the pleasant days, we can’t forget;
The nostalgic memories are evergreen!
But that was more than four decades ago!
The 'flock that grazed the Stanley lawns' was big;
Today, the size has come down by a third;
Some wonderful souls have perished and gone.
The landscape seems so changed though earth remains;
Some trees are gone while others appear cut;
New ones are growing rather very fast!
The air is diff’rent but our thoughts are same.
We miss the ones who are not live today;
Some were stalwarts and doyens, teachers great;
Some sacrificed their lives for patients' sake,
While others taught their students to do feats.

A Year after the Tsunamis...
The seas had plunged their monstrous hands
of ghastly death o’er peaceful shores,
and smothered lives of innocent men,
women and children by the scores:
By walls of giant waves so quick
that leapt higher than all palm-trees;
and took with it their possessions;
and left behind a salty land,
unfit for growing crops or grass;
A stench of corpses, carcasses;
Destroyed buildings; huts; tenements;
Inundating miles of coastal
Villages, towns, beaches, groves.
Oh, what a ruthless nature’s act!
Afilled by fear belies the minds
and hearts grief-torn beyond repair;
The few survivors eke a life
of despair, shock, desolation;
A flurry of questions flashes
through minds wounded and horror-struck:

Relax, Be Cool, My Dearest Brother!
You studied well
Throughout in school
And got your Diploma;
But duty first
Became your aim:
A job you had to join.
You went to work
When just a teen,
To help the family;
You labored hard
And earned degrees
In Evening-Colleges;
You ate mess-food
And shared a room
And sacrificed a lot;
You struggled much
’midst rivalry
And inched your life’s way up;

Terrorist Strikes!
Why fell the trees laden with fruits?
Why cut the saplings ‘fore they grow?
Why mow down fields ‘fore harvest-time?
Why bull-doze crowds in market-squares?
Why hold to ransom by-standers?
Why spray bullets on school-children?
Why slit the throats with arms, legs tied?
Why bomb worshipping places rife?
Why make widows and orphan souls?
Why kill yourselves and others too?
The world cannot remain mute spectator;
The world will go on;
The world must go on;
The world will go on, no matter
How terrorists strike.
A bunch of hoodlums,
A group of fanatics,
A ring of hard-core terrorists

Bible in Poetry: Revelation 5
The Scroll and the Lamb:
1To His right hand, I saw a scroll,
With writing on both sides of it,
And sealed with seven seals as well.
2A mighty angel said aloud,
'Who is the worthy one to break
The seals and open scroll, Tell me? '
3But none in heaven or on earth
Or under earth could open scroll
Or look inside it anyway.
4I wept because no one was found
Who was worthy to open it.
5Then one of the elders said to me,
'Don’t weep! The Lion of the Judah tribe,
The Root of David has triumphed.
He will open the scroll and seals.'
6 I saw a Lamb that appeared slain,
And standing in the throne’s center,
Encircled by creatures, elders.

Bible in Poetry: James 4
Submit Yourselves to God:
1 What causes fights, quarrels ’mongst you?
Do not they come from within you,
From battles of your desires?
2You want something but don't get it.
You kill, covet, but you can’t have all.
You quarrel, fight without limits.
You don’t get for, you don’t ask God.
3 When you ask God, you don’t receive,
Because you ask with wrong motives.
You spend a lot on your pleasures.
4 You people ones, adulterous,
Do not you know that world’s friendship,
Is hatred you bear towards God?
He who is a friend of the world
Becomes an enemy of God.
5 Do you then think that Scripture says
Without reason that our spirit
He caused to live in us envies?

The Plight of Children Today
What looks like play for child with just toy gun,
Is not something done entirely for fun;
For, nowadays, one finds children misused,
For various reasons, and also abused.
Some buds can’t blossom into flowers good,
And beautify the plants on which they lie;
Nor landscapes, gardens or a far-off wood-
For, they are nipped early, destined to die!
Oh, what a sorry state of children now!
The world denies them freedom, basic rights;
Neglected by parents, they pine for love;
Children are prey to society’s vice-bites!
Orphaned, famished, ravished, bare-bodied, some,
Just spend their lives in pavement beggary;
Although quite beautiful and quite handsome,
They lead a miserable life that’s scary.

Bible Stories: Job (Chapter XXXIII)
Job, let me start my discourse then;
Do listen to my words- hearken!
The words all come spontaneously;
I’ll tell my mind most sincerely
The Lord’s spirit with love made me;
God’s breath keeps me alive truly;
You may refute my statements if
You draw up your arguments stiff.
Behold, I am made from like clay;
Let fear not ever you dismay;
You told that you were clean a slate,
And innocent, until this date!
You’re free from transgressions also
There is not guilt in things you do;
Yet, God invents charges on you,
And considers you as His foe!

Bible in Poetry: Gospel of St. Peter 2 (Chapter 1)
An apostle and slave of Jesus Christ,
Simon Peter to those with faith like ours
From Jesus Christ and righteousness of God:
‘May grace and peace be yours in abundance
Through knowledge of God and Jesus, our Lord’
His divine power has bestowed on us,
All things pertaining to life, godliness,
By His own glory and divine power.
He has bestowed on us great promises,
To help us share in the divine nature
Escaping the corruption of the world,
That exists because of evil desire.
So, make efforts to supplement
Your faith with virtue;
The latter with knowledge;
Knowledge with self-control;
The latter with endurance;
