Life of St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (in verse)
A baby boy was born
To peasants, one fine morn;
And christened Francesco,
A day after birth, Oh!
Much pious was the lad,
In world so very bad;
He prayed a lot in life,
And didn’t mind any strife!
He loved to be a priest,
And work for Jesus Christ;
And loved the cassock brown
Of Capuchins in town!
He talked with Christ each day,
And guardian angel Fay;
And Mother Mary too –
His duty well, to do!

Life is Too Precious to Lose
Our life on earth is most precious –
A gift of God to all earthlings;
A token of God’s love for us –
And man must live akin to kings!
The life-giver alone has right
To take away the life from us;
Will anyone with good eye-sight
Destroy it on some lame excuse?
The God of life, the living God
Loves each of us with love equal;
He’s kind and gives a just, fair rod,
And made hell for hearts of evil.
While doctors try to save man’s life,
Some try to take away one’s own,
On flimsy reasons with a knife/
By ingesting drugs called poisons.

Sister Alphonsa (Aug 1910 – July 1946) From Blessed One to Saint
The cradle of Christianity
In India is Kerala-
Where Saint Thomas, the Apostle
Set foot, two thousand years ago.
The fourth child of father, Ouseph,
She lost her mother, Mariam,
When she was just three years of age,
Remaining sick, all through her life.
‘Be a nun, my child’- were the words,
A Carmelite nun said to her:
These were engraved within her heart
Of love for Jesus Christ, till death.
She did not want to get married;
She chose to be a nun in life;
So, burnt her leg in live ash-pit,
To prove her wish to follow Christ.

Bible in Poetry: Gospel of St. Mark (Chapter 3)
Jesus entered the synagogue;
There stood a man with withered hand;
They waited to see if He cures
On Sabbath, so they could accuse.
Then Jesus asked the man be brought;
He asked them all, ‘which is lawful-
Doing evil or good that day?
To save life or to destroy it?
They could not answer His queries.
Then Jesus looked at them with rage,
Aggrieved by their hardness of heart:
He told the man, ‘stretch out your hand! ’
That moment, his hand got restored!
The Pharisees then went out fast,
And talked with Herodians there,
On how to put Jesus to death.

Life’s Uncertain but…
Not all the buds become flowers;
Not all flowers turn into seeds;
Not all the seeds turn into plants!
Not all the plants live long enough.
Why someone commits suicide?
–we really can never know;
But let us not blame him alone,
For ending life, ahead of time.
Not all need do things all alike;
Not all get chances equally;
Not all get similar environs;
Not all need succeed all the time.
Some do decide in ways unique;
Some take risks that others will not;
Some aim and dream much differently;
Some cannot bear failures in life!

Bible Stories: Job (Chapter XXXIV)
‘O men of wisdom, hear me speak!
O men of knowledge, watch me seek,
The truth for ourselves, what is right,
And learn what’s good with good fore-sight! ’
For, Job maintains, he’s innocent,
And God took all his due, decent;
What kind of man is Job, matters?
He drinks blasphemies like waters.
He lives in evil company,
And knows men wicked, so many!
Job says it profits man nothing,
When he does things to God, pleasing.
But God is far from wickedness;
He lives in only righteousness;
He corrects men with misconduct,
And reminds them of their product!

Tis Thanks - Giving Time
With just two years for Diamond jubilee,
We Stanleyans meet once again this year;
Eight years had passed since Golden jubilee,
Our batch-mates join with kith and kin and dear!
We thank God first for His immense kindness,
He blessed our lives in much strange ways so far;
We thank Him for His enormous fondness
for us, all doctors without any bar!
Our life on earth was great enough, we think;
We had our days of woes and quarrels, mirth;
Life gave us experiences fit to ink;
We thank our parents for this useful birth!
We thank our teachers who moulded our clay
to take on challenges in life always;
We thank our friends for love we couldn’t repay,
and neighbours who helped us to spend our days!

Our Lady of Health, Vailankanni (Lourdes of the east)
Devotees walk upon their knees,
On sandy paths that's burning hot,
Unmindful of the scorching sun,
To see the Mother miraculous.
They show their faith and gratitude,
Through arduous journey from their homes;
And have a glorious glimpse of her -
The Virgin Mary, Christ's mother.
Throughout the year, millions throng here,
To see the one, who calmed the sea,
for sailors who had prayed for help,
and built a chapel, thanking her!
The shrine has turned Basilica,
Attracting pilgrims world-over;
Promising miracles to those,
Who put their trust on Mother dear.

Bible Stories: Job (Chapter XXI)
Then Job in reply said:
Just listen to my words, will you?
Some consolation, that can do;
Please bear with me for what I say;
And after that, mock me, you may.
Did I complain to any man?
What’s wrong with my impatience, then?
Be astonished on seeing me;
By horror afflicted truly.
Why wicked should survive on earth?
How powerful they stay since birth!
And grow up to a ripe old age
That can the righteous well enrage.
Their progeny secure always;
Come timely their kinsfolk’s birthdays;
Their homes are safe by night and day;

Bible in Poetry: Gospel of St. John (Chapter 17)
When Jesus had said this, He raised
His eyes to heav’n and said, ‘Father,
The hour has come to glorify your son,
So that, He may then, glorify You too.’
‘You gave Him authority o’er
All people so that, He may give
Eternal life to all you gave.’
‘As this is eternal life then,
They should know you, the one true God,
And one you’d sent, that’s Jesus Christ.’
‘I accomplished the work you gave,
And glorified You here on earth;
So, glorify me Father then
With all the glory I’ad before.’
‘I told your name to ones you chose
To give it to, out of the world;
