Compassion and Anger

Compassion and anger were my only love
Came to me winging like a lonely dove
Gimme some loving from the Lord above
Compassion and anger

Down on the quayside things getting rough
Somebody trying to prove they are tough
Compassion and anger will soon call their bluff
Compassion and anger

Compassion and anger won't make you sad
Compassion and anger will just make you glad
What will you do when the world's turning bad
Without compassion and anger?

My Nightmare (Which They Call 'Life')

Things are not what they seem,
Life is a terrible dream -
I want to wake up, wake up,
But all I can do is dream.

I feel like I want to scream
But however much I try
I can't wake up and cry,
No, all I can do is dream.

The dream has got no end,
It goes on eternally,
Please let me wake up and see
The smiling face of a friend,

Because when I dream it's a lie,
A world of make-pretend,
When I wake up I'll die
And then the nightmare will end.

Ludicrous Lingo

I asked a waiter for some food
And can't complain that he was rude,
'NO PROBLEM, sir! ' was what he said
(I wished the little blighter dead! ! !)
I just can't stand that sort of talk,
So I fiddled with my knife and fork.
Then when it arrived the foolish boy
Came out with 'There you are, ENJOY! '
(I suppose I really shouldn't complain
But this use of words drives me insane! ! !)
I left a tip and heard him say
'Goodbye now, have an AWESOME day! '

A Walking Suicide

I'm a walking suicide,
God knows I've tried
To live a normal life,
To love my wife
And kids, to be the dad
That lots of kids have never had,
But deep inside
I can't live up to the tears I've cried,
I can't be the man they want me to be,
I can't be a cog in society,
Call it my foolish pride!
I'd rather have died
Than be what they want me to be,
To serve with obedience and humility,
God knows I've tried and tried,
I'm just a walking suicide!

Beverley

Beverley cleverly chose her men -
She locked them up in an old pigpen,
If one or another got too much
She confined them to a rabbit hutch.

She wasn't impressed by clothes or fashion
And she never indulged in any compassion,
She never allowed them to feel or touch
And NOBODY ever got near her crutch! !

She had no time for carnal desire
Or any of the things that men require,
She remains a virgin to this day
And most of her boyfriends now are gay!

A Poem about Me and You

Welcome to this race of clones
Dressed up in human flesh and bones,
Lords of a pointless Universe
And children of a vicious curse:
They live on lager and TV
To keep at bay their misery
And do not give a bloody damn
That politics is just a sham,
So long as they can have their fun
(And this applies to everyone) .
They're doomed to live on borrowed time
Until they sink into the slime,
God, tell me that it isn't true,
This is a poem about me and you.

On the Illusions of Youth

When you're young you think it's forever,
You swear true love until you die,
But I warn you that you will never
Do anything but make people cry!

You're just a fool if you think I'm lying,
Life doesn't have any recompence,
A million people around you dying
But still you don't have any common sense!

You feel so safe and so secure,
And Mummy's arms will keep you warm,
But no-one will help you that's for sure
When you're far from shelter in the storm.

A Lady of Pain and Sorrow

Once I loved you,
Once I cherished your phantom flesh,
Once I lost myself in orgasm after orgasm,
Once I bought you flowers (what a cliche!)

You were the Queen of hellish thoughts,
Sweet Harlot and Mother of Lies,
You made me long for your rotting corpse
In your heavenly and bestial disguise,

But now I see you for what you are,
As the rabbit sees the fox before it dies,
Now I'll see it wherever I turn,
The cold, implacable cruelty of your eyes! !

A Vicious Little Verse

My heart leaps up when I behold
A teardropp in your eye,
There's nothing I enjoy as much
As seeing people cry,
And if you sob and moan out loud
It gives me such a thrill,
It makes me want to go outside
To torture, maim and kill! !

I know you really disapprove
And think that I'm a cad,
But surely you can understand
The joy of being bad?
Being good is such a bore
And such a waste of time,
It's much more fun to break the law
And boast of it in rhyme! !

An Old Addiction

You'll find me in the dark spaces between the stars
Where the cold wind blows through my rib-cage
And the moon slowly wanders.

You won't find me hanging round bars
Nursing a pint to shelter me
And ward off the lonely tears.

I'm 'cured' now, but I still carry the scars
Life gave me and the pain that I got rid of
By drinking too many beers.

It was a way to drown out the sorrow,
Just at the price of a hangover tomorrow,
And I've missed it for so many years.
