A Look In The Mirror

Words modulate like fleeing wind
Her body is a pagan temple
Time bargains with the precipice
Ebullient piano of Chopin
Sorrow is only soothed with hope
Her pagan eyes only offer pleasure

Eastern Europe calls the eagles
Jerusalem is my sacred city
The lamp of my father remains

Fields as green as Eden
Stalin will never rest
Ukrainian sunflowers grow
Prague and Kafka grow
Dostoevsky is a candle
Warsaw shines

These roots cannot die or I die
Self discovery is a spiritual road

Endless Sea

By the sea she dreams in quiet longing
Sea gulls fly free, clouds drift with out care
Waves swell and playfully role

I see her from a far, the beach is ours
Blue skies shine on golden sand
The season for love has finally arrived

Her hair falls down in the morning sun
Her soft eyes look far into the distant sea
I can't keep from watching her

Foot prints in the sand, sea weed, shells
Feel the sensual sun warm the salty air
The universe is alive, sea gulls glide free

The sea is a great comfort to her
Flowing waves bring a sense of calm
She smiles and slowly walks on the sand

I'll Never Forget You

Opaque heart lit with tenderness
She shines like a child’s smile
Those old songs bring a tear
I really hope your life is happy
When the bitterness goes we can see
We had some real love one for another
Didn’t we?

Oh! How I pretended and rationalized
How I tried too make it all contained
Processed and intellectual
Now I know it was love
Pure and simple love and passion
Defining things can minimize

Nothing has ever replaced the fire of your kiss
They say we only get one love of our life
Your eyes so filled with moonlight
So passionate
Our bed was on fire

Angels War

Forest of dark labyrinth hides
Sighs of twisted olive trees rise
Spanish dungeons filled with devils
She time travels into eternity
Her ragged doll filled with blood
Peasant mother killed by dark riders
Talk too spirits in the forest
Saints without decomposed bodies
Divine kings oppress the masses
Secular man shall shine like heaven
Spinoza, Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Marx
Revolutions burning with nihilism
We are the insane offspring of confusion
Welcome to causes to politics and sides
Horned creatures with mauve eyes
Dreams where fairies anoint hope

Mirrors that lead too oblivion
Mercantile visions where fire dances
Starfish red as Jupiter’s angels

My Future is from Above

Shiver in cold shrines of lost night
Contempt the mother of dragon soul
Your lazar eyes are filled with fright
No sun blazes with nourishing growth
Waste your years on fallow rock
Every open door needs tender joy
Hear the armies of Pharaoh mock
Leaders so frivolous and coy
Time freezes with indigo ice
Escape too islands with no clocks
Can you see all the judging eyes?
Watch the Shepard lead his flock
Silver mines filled with despair
Ancient serpent coils and strikes
Your golden ruins never repaired
Deep places waiting for the light

Thorns and thickets guard the garden
Accusations tremble the very ground
A voice says I can be fully pardoned

The New Widow

Candle red as requiem
Words burn forever
Out the city door there is wings
Take your place on the stage
Find your face amidst the rage
Don Juan separates sex from love
Covered in silk consciousness
Hades waits like the prowling lion
Her lovers are masks
Her mirror of greedy self destruction
Now evening has come to the land
Everyone is living in a opium dance
Manipulated like a bouquet of roses
Her opaque smile like a barbiturate spell
She wants to be my horizon
The dead wait patiently for her kiss

Some can only chase and capture
Recite the angst dreams beneath the metallic
Recite the sphinx mind of morning’s pain

My Dead Fathers Dignity

Grandparents met in Japan after the war
A secretary and a soldier
A wounded soldier
My other grandparents were from Iowa
Raised on farms
Dad was a soldier and went to Nam
He was wounded and received a purple heart
Mom was in nursing school
They met at the University of Minnesota
Dad used the GI bill
I have an older brother and sister
Mom died in a car accident when I was 17
Dad died of cancer in 2009
He was 60 years old
They dropped his health insurance
They foreclosed his house
He was wounded for his country
I was not into politics now I am
Everyone should have healthcare
Insurance companies shouldn’t rule

Laurels Of Green

Trees filled with starlight
Wise rivers in the root of life
Cedar leaves banners of Solomon
White pine laugh with the elves
Poems of the ancient sequoias
Whispering forests by the sea
We are the fallen race of men
They have not been banished
They are free with no guilt or shame
They know no war like strife of man

They speak of the fire from above
We walk softly on velvet moss
Wild flowers, apple orchards, ferns
My darling have you heard?
Lets go out tonight in the moonlight
Blueberries grow free and wild
Eagles filled with grace and joy
Oak and basswood, grapevines
The grass awaits the savory rain

Eternal Forests

Fate circles the moon of desire
We are the earth circling time
Her kiss has rivers with deer
Eagles fly over cliffs of granite
Lovers of ember centuries
Past the tears past the fears
The thunder of buffalo herds
Mountain streams like Eden
No armies or galleons
Oak grow as the mighty wind
Our bed has ancestry

Lovers share their dreams
When the land was open
No signs, no ownership
Meadows of stars shine
We are the future laughter
We are the dreams of warriors
They know they must die
They know they must be brave

Fallen Angels

Left bank of the Seines
Elegant as Rodin’s mistress
Sculptured lioness of summer
Freedom revels like astrology
No base can mold the wind
Notre Dame writhes the asp
The city bells wail the change
Deco art of the juggernaut
Leave your Luddite souls
Spires of the new age
Disraeli moors of progress
Awaken the sleeping peasant

Some of us belong in deep caves
Madness has shrill winds
Visit your minaret chandeliers
Throw your coins into the fountain
Sensual robes of azure pornographers
Kingdoms from the lofty star
Burning kingdoms
