Prelude to autumn! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
As the monsoon recedes, with vengeance
Sun livid strikes back, but gives up pretence
By mid noon, it retreats and westwards race,
Far from city scape, it slips leaving no trace.
Dusk falls at six, in blows a gentle breeze.
Festive season on, feel like drape silk weaves.
House is plunged in the darkness, but moon beams
Gently descend and rest on leaves it seems.
My upturned face is touched by their caress
Palm fronds swing and night strolls in at its pace.
Cicadas have made a quiet exit with the rain,
I embrace the quiet; no background score or strains.

Emergency
When faced with
An emergency,
We don’t dwell
Over our petty grievances.
We are
Completely present
In the moment.
As we focus
On the important
And the urgent
Knowing
There is no time
To waste,
We weigh
The pros and cons
In an instant.

Arrivals and Departures
Landing, arrival, homecoming
Taking off, departing, holiday, higher learning.
Some holding out arms to embrace
Others were waving with both hands.
Reunion filled with anticipation
Moist eyes, wistful expressions.
Animated faces, full of devotion
Lips twitching, myriad emotions.
Commotion, as dear ones alight
And others depart to catch a flight.
From the lounge I watched
Anxious faces, on tiptoe search
Some giving last minute instructions
Young, listening with compunction.
Airport lounges and Railway stations
Tell so many stories I thought with fascination.

Call me by my true name! ! ! ! ! !
Please call me by my true name,
Not the ones that with tags came;
For it always reminds me
What I truly want to be…
Please call me by my true name,
Not the ones that put me in a frame,
So the spring of joy and laughter
Makes me bloom hereafter.
I choose to keep the gate
Of my heart open, free of hate
Let Him show me the path,
To live in the midst of wrath.
Pain and sorrow I know
Will come even tomorrow,
But joy and laughter
Will follow for sure, thereafter.

Sonnet
Whenever you feel melancholic and low,
Just cut some beautiful dainty flowers,
And add tall stems of lemon green foliage.
Mindfully put them in a clear crystal vase.
With patience see how to bring out the best,
From these gifts of God, in such a way,
That whosoever walks in feels blessed
To see them on the table on display.
Before you know clouds of sorrow depart,
And you wonder why you felt so sad.
All it takes is flowers to feel light hearted,
And you feel joyous and your heart expands.
Doing up flowers is like meditation,
It takes you out of your ruminations.

Sonnet 2
As Cupid’s arrow strikes your heart
Before you know hormones are in motion,
You are blissfully unaware of faults
At that time you have no clue or notion,
Love is not merely gazing in other’s eyes.
There are many milestones to be covered,
In order to survive the test of time.
Refrain from making other feel smothered.
Ignore each other’s quirks with humour,
To build an easy harmonious equation.
Thus there won’t be any place for rancour,
Home will be full of love and compassion.
For when you tie the knot in sacred bond,
It binds two souls with a tender chord.

Don't Let the Rain Play Spoil Sport
On days you are forced to stay indoors
As the rain non stop pours.
While you wait for the rain gods to take a break,
Don’t waste time with nose pressed to the window pane.
Just pull out your favourite board games
Tune in some foot tapping music on World space.
Brew some steaming hot cups of tea,
Or play dumb charades in a spirit of camaraderie.
Pass the hot snacks and finger foods around,
In no time the house will resound.
With loud peals of laughter,
There will be lots of gossip and banter.
Everyone will you’ll see soon forget,
About rain being a spoil sport.

Nature's Fury
Disturbing images,
Ravaged faces.
Pain and grief,
Loss and disbelief.
Hopeless and helpless,
No sense to the madness.
Millions swept
By furious waves.
Ministers flew
To take an aerial view.
And assess
The damage.
And appeal to the nation
To make liberal donations.

A journey begins with first step! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Oh great warriors
Of yore
Sages of folk lore,
Could you tell me
Why do I feel vanquished
In the face of victory?
Had no aspiration to build
Great empires,
Or enlighten
The ignorant.
Just a small aspiration
To be free
And protest against
Pressure of
Conformity…
On being released,
from captivity,

Dare To Dream
When your offspring flies the nest
You have mixed feelings when you rest.
The house is quite like a tomb
There is an empty feeling in the womb.
There are familiar stirrings inside you
Which seem to urge you to do
Things which had been put aside
While you were busy raising your child
Now out of the blue old yearnings are alive
And you feel like to strive
To work on the same
And make a name
It's true the only constant in life is change
You must widen your horizon and range
You may not be in your prime
But now you have the time
To work full steam
And once again dare to dream..
