ASonnet- Man's Quest

Our every desire might not be fulfilled
Enjoy the journey, to your destination.
Even if you feel life is far from idyll
Must go on with a positive affirmation.
Never give up on your dreams and carry on
The mask you don should just never slip down.
Say your prayers in earnest every morn,
Hopefully; go through life without a frown.
When it gets rough take one day at a time,
Be kind to yourself, don’t pity or condemn.
Surrender to him just before bed time,
Remain upbeat, even if you have to feign.
The turmoil starts man’s search for meaning,
It was God’s intention from the very beginning.

In silence You speak! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Slipped into bed and began to review,
The year that had gone, with a distant view.
Sky, a shade of grey pearls, on full moon night.
On last day and hour of year, ah, so bright.
As clock struck twelve, and crackers erupt.
Revellers cheered and sang, ushered in first.
Watching the sky show from my windowpane
Was filled with delight, touched by song’s soft strains.
Became oblivious to outside din.
And conversed with my celestial kin.
I can’t miss my appointment with night.
Just can’t retire early try as I might.
The night and quiet serenade and revive
Body and spirit, wake up feeling alive.

Karmic Debt

To be treated with disdain,
Is this the bane
Of parents
Of this generation?

Please don’t have
Any expectations
Of me,
As I have a family
Of my own,
Is the constant refrain.

The silent cry,
Pain and disgust
Over such callousness,
Too overwhelming to discuss.

Overcome with regret,
Over a life time spent
On putting them first,

Thanksgiving! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

A few drops of rain;
Multi coloured little grass flowers
Come out of earth,
And saplings of Peepul
Raise their head with cheer
On a cobbled path,
Or stick their neck
Out from crevices
In concrete walls.

Is it a gesture of
Thanksgiving
For answering its prayers
After a relentless summer?
Oh, how wondrous
Is nature!
It has a great sense of timing
And subtle humour.

But I fear to tread at dawn

A Prayer of Gratitude

I know I have lost
Touch with the core of my being,
Where you forever reside
When I get swept by sensory delights.

The euphoria lasts a short while,
You never chide and welcome with a smile,
When I in torment feel compelled to crawl within
Ever forgiving, you embrace and illumine

The Divine light permeates my every cell,
And I feel safe at the alter where you dwell.
All I need is to sit at your feet
And not get swept by these worldly treats.

I admit at times my will is weak,
In all honesty the truth I speak.
The realization has finally dawned
The world and its promises are a mere illusion.

As the ink begins to run...! ! ! ! ! ! !

A sheaf of papers got swept with the breeze,
Like kites my poems took flight with ease.
I watched as drifted and fell to the ground,
On the freshly mowed grass, without a sound.

Is there anything new about my thoughts?
I wondered feeling a bit startled and distraught.
What ever makes me feel they are so very unique?
Aren’t they intrinsic part of being human, felt intrigued?

Dark clouds gathered and hid the setting Sun,
Soon light showers soaked the papers, ink began to run,
Like salty tears wet the cheeks of an overwhelmed heart.
How come I feel free … I muttered to no one with a start.

A little Angel comes back

Anika went for a trip to the sea
And brought lovely gifts for me
Sea shells in all sizes and shapes.
With her eyebrows raised

I could tell she wanted me to feel amazed
I went along, and said wow, as I gaped.
She picked up one and put it to my ear
And said Sh, Sh, please just hear.

Put her little finger on my lips
And stood with her hand on her hips
Waited, patiently till I said it’s the ocean
She clapped with glee and joyful expression.

You know I picked these with you in my mind
I hugged her and said thank you my child.
Grand children bring joy so pure
All grand parents will vouch for it sure.

Little star, little star...! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Little star, little star
Why you live so far?

You really look so naughty
When from afar you wink at me.

You shine so bright above the hills.
I watch you when all is still.

Keep waiting for you in city,
Live in high rise, it’s a pity.

At times when I fly at night.
You look evermore bright.

I look and look and look.
and sketch in my book.

I truly, truly miss you.
Somehow I know you too.

Begin Anew...

Yes, we are estranged,
But now I have no complaints.

You want to make amends
And start from being friends.

Is it too late?
Are you filled with hate?

Really don’t care
As we have nothing to share.

You shift and look askance,
And plead do we have a chance.

When did love die?
Can’t we give another try?

I really don’t know,
Who knows about tomorrow?

Full Moon

I lay in bed,
Suddenly awake
At midnight,
Soaked in sweat.

As I got up
To wipe my face,
My eyes drifted
To the windowpane.

I saw the full moon
Calm and compassionate,
Its soothing white light
Gently filling up
My room.
As if to touch
And embrace me.

I don’t know
How long I gazed.
