At Times you wish you were not Right...! ! ! !
On that day when you gallantly got up,
And started engraving with knife our names,
On the trunk of the shady silver oak tree,
With boyish charm, as if playing a game…
I urged, it’s cruel, don’t… it too hurts.
You nonchalantly said, “Don’t be silly”.
I looked away, disconcerted, as you added
Trees are not people, they have no feelings.
we met one year back, let's enjoy our anniversary,
Indulgently smiling, you said, “Let’s go and visit
That grove in the hills where you got angry
And just reminisce and for a while sit
Under the tree which bears testimony
To my love for you…” I kept quiet
But gave in to your relentless plea.
You turned your face away at the sight

A Glimpse of Heaven
The sky resplendent
With translucent streamers
Suspended from end to end…
In colours brilliant-
Fuchsia, grapefruit yellow
Dove white and indigo,
Watermelon red and,
Purple grapes.
I joined the celebrations
Along with crescent moon-
Looking with an indulgent smile
Like a grandparent, at a
Child, jumping with joy...
At 10,000 feet height
While flying,
Wondering if it was
A flight of fancy…
The city was fading away

Light House! ! ! ! ! !
Am overwhelmed with guilt, you see,
Due to paucity of time, my deadlines
Thought you alone will understand,
I axed your name off the do list.
I don’t know where I got the beliefs…
Those are now obsolete and bind.
I have rewritten my own script,
With the pressure off, I feel relieved.
The tree rooted, though shook, withstood the storm
Power failed, lightening struck… shuddered,
Grateful for darkness, after a pause, mother
Said, thanks for being candid, go spread wings.
Umbilical cord, dear was severed long ago,
Hush fell after the storm, lights came on.
Mother smiled, despite shadows and dark rings
Don’t you see we both want the same thing?

Realization
An idea came to my mind,
I went inside to find
A paper and a pen
And sat down in my den.
The pen moved on
I don’t know when my maids were gone.
After I had poured out my heart,
I looked at the paper with a start.
It was tear stained
Outside it had started to rain.
Some unseen power had guided my hand.
I had just begun with a thin strand.
I walked around perplexed,
I hadn’t known this is how I felt.
How foolish to think I had written it.
God, you only know how I feel in the pit
of my belly. The sense of me, I am the doer,

A ladybird in the grass! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Sitting by a forest brook
On the grass under a tree;
Just my little girl and me
I read to her from a book.
Suddenly she called from afar.
Ladybird, lady bird in the grass.
She picked and put it in her palms
And then carefully kept it in a jar.
While feeding it some grass
Looking puzzled she asked me:
How did it get its name nani?
Is it because its dainty she asked.
It does have wings, I said.
It’s just a colourful insect
Yet isn’t it so very perfect?
God has made it well dressed.

Dillemma
When you are alone and bereft
And no longer so deft
You wonder what to do
Live alone or with the children as they urge you.
You have to choose between a life
Of loneliness and silence that is rife
Only with memories from the past
Which are going to haunt you till you last.
Or start afresh with a child
Slipping into their life in a manner mild
Where you can be sure to hear
The sounds of life and cheer
Rather than live with fear
Alone where no one can hear
Your silent cry for human touch
At times as such
When you are feeling low

Friends
Friends care about your answer,
When they ask how you are.
Friends stand by you through thick and thin,
When others desert you like a sinking ship.
Friends help you find yourself at every cost,
When you feel completely lost.
Friends quietly and with patience listen,
And speak up when the time is ripe.
Friends never betray your trust,
They are perfect confidants.
Friends keep quiet and don’t judge,
And never for long hold a grudge.
Fiends encourage you when you are low,
And cheer the loudest when you are raring to go.
Friends firmly tell you,
When you are overstretching and must say no.

Death Of A Soldier
Five years ago, he had joined the IMA*
In the prime of his life, he has gone today
He was injured fighting the militants
His body was ridden with bullets
Nobody would know for sure
What he had to endure
How much it hurt
While the blood spurt
On the barren ground
Where he was groaning, found
I wonder, what went on in his head
While he lay on the hospital bed
What was he thinking?
While he was sinking
Did he in his last moments of strife
Feel he had wasted his life
Fighting a senseless war
While the world watched from afar
Or, did he while breathing his last, feel proud

At a Wedding...! ! ! ! !
Unlike the days gone by
When the veil covered the eyes,
And the bride couldn’t even catch
A glimpse of one she was getting married.
My niece stepped out with parted lips,
Radiant, swaying to the beat with her hips.
It was the traditional ladies sangeet,
All the naughty songs were played to tease.
The boy was there with his friends,
A formal invitation had been sent.
There was warmth and bonhomie,
Both young and old were acting naughty.
Men too danced with abandon and energy
I too longed to join in the revelry
Come on dear, what… he said with a start,
Let’s too dance, I feel young at heart.

After The Sunset
After the sunset,
When slowly the darkness crept
And the sky was covered with a star studded veil.
I sat on the terrace with a cocktail.
As I sipped the moon came up,
I heard a bird chirp.
The air was mildly fragrant
And the aura soul stirring and pregnant/
As i went over my day,
I spotted the Milky Way.
My childhood flashed across my mind,
When under the sky I lay besides
My siblings and chased the fire flies,
With my darting eyes.
Wistfully I wondered when did I see them last?
The memories from the past-
Raat ki rani, beat of drums,
