Oklahoma Heritage Center

I wish you could have been with us
When we went on a trip the other day
Our tour guide did a great job
With the Heritage Center on display

The building was renovated
And done with such style and grace
Housing historical pieces
It’s a very exceptional place

The furniture is extraordinary
And you should see the glass chairs
The history just seeps into your mind
And done with wonderful flair

You learn about Oklahomans
That founded this wonderful state
Going way back to the beginning
We can’t even begin to relate

Candy, Candy, Candy!

You’ve heard the expression many times
About a kid in the candy store
But there’s a place I’ll tell you about
That has every kind of candy and more

The containers of candy go way back
To retro styles of such fun
Candy from your childhood too
You’ll no doubt find every single one

A soda fountain graces the store
Oh my, sure takes me back
Way back when I was a teenager
Yes sir, that’s simply a fact

Cherry red stools to sit upon
As you smile and make your choice
Of delicious enticing concoctions
You just plain want to rejoice

Spring Time 'n Chocolate

Have you noticed the subtle changes
Lately along the roadway?
Color is popping out now
A little more every single day

The trees aren’t quite so bare
For green is peeking through
And some blossoms also we see
Their colors so sweet and so true

Just as sweet as chocolate
A treat for your eyes and your nose
As the weather becomes a little warmer
We are able to wear cooler clothes

I also notice the little bugs
Coming out into the elements again
Flies and bumble bees a’buzzin’
And spiders have webs to spin

Family Time

Don’t you treasure your family time?
It sort of puts your heart to rest
Devoted, loved and respected
A close family is always the best

Children are taught to respect
The elderly folks related to them
They hear stories, look at pictures of
Family from which their lives stem

And of course, we all have relatives
That we never got to know
But we listen so intently to those
Who enjoyed that person so

Mom and dad with our babies
Pictures that are truly treasures
To put into a book or on a CD
Each memory is always a pleasure

Saturday Night in Dill City

We had a night I’d like to tell about
Consisting of an extraordinary meal
The food was simply delicious
With a down-home country feel

The place in which I ordered my food
It was one it’d never have expected
It was at the Fire Extinguisher
I was not even really directed

The food was oh, so scrumptious
Hamburger steak cooked on the grill
Caramelized onions plopped on top
I can taste that flavor still

Crispy fries and freshly made salad
With dressing fit for a king
Perfect for a party
Or out for a Saturday night fling

Joyous Spring Colors

Spring always starts with a little yellow
As dandelions pop out their heads
Then we see daffodils’ smiling faces
They don’t even need flower beds

We enjoy blossoms along the streets
Some are pink and some are white
After a long dreary winter, folks
They are such a welcome sight

Azaleas and Rhododendrons galore
Burst forth with many colors
Every size you can imagine as well
And flourish like no others

Let’s not forget the Hydrangea
Dressed in blue, pink or white
Huge balls of blossoms they are
And just fills us with delight

One Room School

While traveling on vacation
Sometimes I come across
A one room school sitting alone
Its hopes and dreams are lost

You can almost hear the voices
Of children in the school yard
Giggling and running at recess time
For their tasks seemed very hard

Pig tails flying as little girls played
Petticoats peeking out
From under long pretty dresses
Boys laughing as they run about

Can you imagine what it was like
For teachers to teach several ages
Their learning ability so different
As they were all at various stages

A Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride

Oh what fun it is to see
A carriage drawn by a horse
Still after all these years
You can find them still, of course

For in special towns you can find
A horse drawn carriage to travel in
In New Orleans for instance, folks
So very beautiful with lots of trim

But can you imagine just how
Exciting they were in their day
Perhaps a roof and maybe not
Like riding atop a trailer with hay

So many wonderful styles there were
You can see in museums and such
Fancy some of them really are
With an old-fashioned classic touch

Lindsay’s Graduation

We were so proud of Lindsay
On her graduation day
She turned a fresh new corner
So much she had to say

For she had passed a milestone
What special memories
So beautiful and so talented
With wonderful qualities

Whatever she chose to do
We knew she’d do it well
Her family looked happily on
Full of pride, we could tell

Of course there are always
Bumps rising in the trail
But with Lindsay’s determination
How could she possibly fail?

Can't Change the Weather

Crisp and white and cold
It was a beautiful snowy day
Life seemed devoid of turmoil
As I watched the ducks at play

Trees covered in their lacy winter white
The sky was gray with threatening snow
And yet a bit of white peaked through
It was the best kind’a day I know

And as I drove across a bridge
Slush was forming and the snow rearranged
It seemed as though there was a pause
I knew something was about to change

I love the changing of the weather
A cold and blowing storm
And then as quick as fingers snap
It would be sunny and sweet and warm
