Western Ecstasy
There is nothing like the western life
It’s truly a dream come true
So comfortable and peaceful
It’s a quiet that beckons to you
Under the azure skies above
Out on the open prairies
No hustle and bustle of city life
Western ecstasy it truly carries
Windmills dot the landscape
The whirling adds to the calm
Wonderful red barns ‘long side
Creates their own kind of charm
Corrals you’ll see as you drive by
Vacant now, no cows in sight
Sage brush with the musky smell
Coyotes howl in the black of night!

The Rockin L & H
Nothing tastes nearly as good
As it does on the outside grill
Camping out in my childhood
I have sweet memories still
Beans slow cooked and smoky
Bacon and bar-b-q sauce within
Biscuits light and fluffy as well
Sharing food with friends and kin
Corn so sweet and delicious
Yet crunchy against your teeth
The smell of the smoke in the air
Of wonderful smoky pork or beef
There’s a place that you’ll truly enjoy
Where you’ll never want to eat in haste
Because the food is so delicious
It is called the Rockin L & H!

My Brother’s Fountain
He died last year about this time
I still miss him every day
I think about him all the time
For my brother’s gone away
I have the fountain he once had
There’s a special place in my yard
Surrounded by his favorite Roses
They are beautifully standing guard
I also have in this honored spot
A park bench so I can hear
The trickle of water down the rocks
A sound that is oh, so dear
It brings back so many memories
All the years when we were children
It’s like spending time with him again
Listening to my brother’s fountain!

Delicious Concoctions
Sweet, delicious concoctions
How delightful it is to see
Brought together by the platefuls
Just for you and me
Sticky and delightful
Chocolate of every color
Ah yes, Valentine’s Day
It is a holiday like no other
Forget about the diet
Just for about a day
For celebrating this holiday
Candy is usually the way
Brownies are delicious too
And such a joy to eat
Once again fill your plate
Of these awesome delicious treats

Make a Kid Happy
If you want to make a kid happy
Just put a fishing pole in his hand
As soon as he snags one
He’ll feel like the King in his land
There’s nothing like the feel
Of a tug on the end of the line
His heart starts to race instantly
It could be a branch with a little twine
It’s not only the sport of fishing
But he’s bringing food to dinner
So proud that kid will be
A sport that makes him a winner
So if you want to make a child happy
Get him started in this wonderful game
Put that rod in his hands
He will never again be the same!

My Red Dirt World
Did you ever see a red dirt road
With a red dirt pond ‘long side?
Brilliant yellow sunflowers
In the grass where burrs might hide?
Oil wells thriving endlessly
White gobs from a cotton patch
Bolls in the patch ready to burst
Sweet blooms like a bird that hatched
All my red dirt rides in the country
Are laced with these wondrous things
They sum up the life I’ve lived so far
Kinda tug at my worn heart strings
Ah yes, such red dirt memories
As I wonder through life’s plan
But I do my best along the way
For I’m just a red dirt man!

Shade Tree Horse
You know, I’m just a shade tree horse
I think they know it by now
When the sun is blistering hot
I won’t go in the field like a cow
I’ve tried to make my owner
Realize my station in life
I’ve sent a message to his kids as well
And even to my owner’s wife
I’m special and everyone knows it
If they don’t put me in my stall
When the weather’s so sweltering
There’s my shade tree after all
Then one day the weather will change
And winter will come, of course
But while the sun is a’blazin’
I’m always the shade tree horse!

Springtime Magic
There is so much magic in springtime
As our landscape begins to wake up
Much like a warm delicious coffee
That we sip from a special coffee cup
Little sprouts pop out of the ground
Oh, what did I plant last year?
Often we get a big surprise and
It's so pretty that we may shed a tear
Trees that were naked and quite ugly
Begin to have a fuzzy green
For leaf buds are really excited
To open in springtime it seems
I love this time of year and without it
It would be ever so tragic
Nothing makes me happier than
Mother Nature's Springtime Magic!

The Perfect Kind of Day
It was the perfect kind of day
As I went for a little ride
Just me out with nature
Taking everything in stride
So relaxing to see the cows
Out in the fields so fresh and green
There is nothing more calming
That I have ever seen
I stopped and got out
Of my car so I could see
The cows right up close
They were fascinated with me
I was in no hurry though
Nothing else that I had to do
Enjoying this time I spent
And I’ll bet you’d enjoy it too

Just Couldn’t
You know, I just couldn’t imagine
Life away from the country air
I love the way it makes me feel
Like I don’t have a single care
Livestock within the boundaries
Of the farmer’s fresh hay field
Baled up neat and tidy in summer
For an exciting winter yield
Lovely ponds dotted across the land
Perhaps a great fishing hole
Wildflowers with faces to the wind
Kinda gets to the heart and soul
Not much else to say, my friend
Even if I was forced to I wouldn’t
You try to put me into the city life
I’d have to say no, I just couldn’t!
