Why in my soul [De ce în al meu suflet]

Why in my soul I carry
The death when go ahead,
Why is my speech so empty
And why my eye is dead?

Why is my head deserted
My life so sad and dry?
And why are you the person
Who always asks me why?

Heroic distich [Distih eroic]

Young poplar, inlaid in the midst of summer,
With lively boughs and shining green leaves, too,
When wind passes in flight
Teach me to laugh in sunlight as you do
And sip it with delight.
***
Black poplar, inlaid in the frost of winter,
Inert beneath the moon,
With iron twigs and here and there a splinter...
Teach me how to forget the summer's light
And on the plain, alone,
To give my sadness to the quiet night
And save the thoughts that really are my own...

You are not... [Nu eşti tu...]

You are not the one who hurt me and who broke my heart in two,
Don't be perky that I loved you and I cried for you, my friend,
You were just a ghost, a vapor, of a moment which I knew
That would touch my soul and bind it with a longing without end.
And if happened to torment me and if I am troubled still,
You are not the cause of all these, you're not guilty, I dare say,
My own soul is the true culprit for it felt a profound thrill,
But the love is mine for ever, you're the wink that flew away.
