My Ascent
If I ascend to great heights
And achievement renowned
But to your peril and shame
And your self-esteem abridged
Your hopes and dreams arrested
By disparagement and disrespect
Then my success is worthless
And my pursuit a fool’s errand
But if by my ascent you ascend
Your dreams refined, rejuvenated
Your goals defined and reinstated
Then my attainment is worthwhile
For my achievement is measured
By the lives I touch and nurture
While my passion for the LORD
Drives my passion for success

A Spring Garden
The blossoming of new life
A spring garden of beauty
To prepare you to embrace
The season with freshness,
To offer her benevolence
A smile of love and vigor
The beauty of flowers budding
Bees and butterflies rejoicing
Spreading fragrance of spring
To awaken you in her blossom
To begin a new day's chore
To offer your due diligence
To receive her gift of loyalty
To bask in spring’s newness
To immerse in her novelty
To enjoy the season as it unfolds
To soak up in her divine beauty
Wrapped in evening splendor!

Testimony
'Tis not the fellowship or worship service
Nor the strength of your sermon delivery
Nor the power in your prayers offered
That testifies of your faith in God.
'Tis not your doctrinal scholarship
Nor the depth of your exposition
Nor the eloquence in your delivery
That speaks of your faith in Christ.
'Tis the life you lead moment to moment,
Your conduct in all your activities, great or small,
Your life in your secret hiding place,
The very intentions and motives in your dealings:
These testify of your faith in God
And speak of your walk with Christ.

Gracious Grace
Gracious is the Grace that favored me thus
When I knew Him not, my heart yet hardened
Merciful is the mercy that found me hither
Renewed me within, when I sought Him not
And this is the Love that transformed me
And rights my wrongs and renews my heart
To guide my footsteps, to inflame my passion
To love what He loves, to hate what He hates
My heart so awakened, my mind thus renewed
My passion now aright, my life daily revitalized
Now death has no dread and life no doldrums
As each day an adventure, each moment a quest
Of joyous awakenings, of wonderful endeavors
Passionate engagements and daily discoveries

A Heartfelt Smile
Your smile in this ambient grace
Her refulgence here sets aglow
While many still prefer to frown
To douse every flicker and glare
And your unfeigned smile grants
Her brilliance each morn' sprang
After my nights a glitter starved
Your smile, duly welcome prayed
Others their feigned smile dole
Hidden frowns beneath a wave
Yours unpretentious and brave
Set to compose a troubled soul
Her genuineness is illuminating
Real, heartfelt and invigorating
To set aflame my slothful spirit
Effuse inspiration without limit

Imprints of You
To have known you even for an instant
To have seen you from afar
To have been graced by your presence
Your smile and your beauty
The sound of your voice reverberating
Soothing and refreshing
To have experienced your absence
And the ensuing darkness
And to have enjoyed the pleasure
Of your presence once again
My mornings suddenly rejuvenated
And you the joy and rejoicing of my life
There at my place of humbling
I depart now with joy having absorbed
The best and beautiful in you
I depart with imprints of you on my soul
Vestiges of your presence around me
And still the joy and rejoicing of my heart

The weekends are for rest and rejuvenation
Saturdays for my composure and reflection
And Sundays for fellowship and restoration
Mondays, back to the regular grind of work
How I wish I could skip the other three days
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays readily,
And proceed straight into Friday’s preparation
And into my weekend of rest and rejuvenation
But what if Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday,
Do hold the keys, and all the clicks that count
That would make my favorite days worthwhile
Would I readily wish or prefer to skip any day?
While I look forward to the weekends for rest
While each day lends itself to me generously
I would welcome it with grateful anticipation
To enjoy each moment as it fades into the past
