Hatfield’s & McCoy’s

1878 – 1891 American lore
Bitterly feuding – a metaphor
Hatfield’s – West Virginia; the
McCoy’s – Old Kentucky region
Not quite the same anymore.

Both Manny-factured and
sold lightning white, gorilled
in the Un-Civil War
Hatfield’s wore the blue
McCoy’s were Johnny Rebs.

Feud for thought began
as a wedding plan – clans
disagreed, that be about
1873 – but over a hog
Line in the sand – damn!

Tempers escalated after a

Tripping the Light

Light the incredible night
Long amazing trip it will be
Self-pleasure’s an irony –
Two hearts beating as one
Like a trip through Shangri-la –
In a glass-bottom boat
Retirement from the dance floor –
A one way trip to reality
The music gears up once again
A return to the moon on lighted wings –
You and your partner dressed to the nines
Whichever you turn you see the other’s face
Net of the spoken word cast aside
Your love for one another sentimentality
“Let me be your light, be my light” –
Like a waterfall that dances on the sea
Trip your bodies – shoot the spirit on
Further than love’s target ever shone
Tripping the light sears and stays –
Breaks old doubts and fears

Listen to the Flowing River

The fisherman used to cast his line into the running water
And take what the flowing river allowed him to receive
Now he’s watching as the pollutants slaughter
No longer can he wade out from the shore, a time to grieve.
He looks down on the river sadly mourning
Detests the modern world that lives within
The river’s surface shadows a simple warning
A positive transformation must begin.
We must close our eyes and listen to the flowing river
We must open up our hearts and take one more chance
To take a stand, don’t yield, don’t quiver
Make a choice not to live in this world as victims of circumstance.
No longer watch as acid rain continues to pour down – to sorrow
Should not let our expectations fill with fear
Everyone look out to new horizons on the morrow
The lamp of knowledge is coming here.
Let the rejoicing ring out in the heartland
And thank the Lord and pour blessings on his name, amen
May the future be true for our sons and daughters – delivered with a helping hand
Listen to the flowing river as the fish swim upstream once again.
