Free Nelson Mandela
Perhaps we'd rather be
earthbound
than free
that's why we hate
those that break
the tyranny.
On America taking Nelson Mandela off their terrorist list recently.

Postmodern
Why all this
death and destruction
it leaves me fearful
of what will be left
of our postmodern world
when chance is the only glimmer of hope
to survive the horror.

Bathed In A Sea Of Whimsy
I wonder
what it would be like
to swim
in a chocolate
lake
adorned with marzipan fruit
where I could be
myself
nutty as a fruitcake
or happy
as a floating cupcake.

The Bystander
I would stand
Before the Roman warrior
And say
I don't know him
Though Jesus touched my brow
With kindness
My courage
Failed me
I could not bear witness
For Jesus.

The Beat
The snake hipped
skivvy wearing
little poseur
carrying a thin volume
of Baudelaire
and spouting Villon
knew he was
on a good thing
to score
maybe
I wished
I was he.

Settlers Take The New Frontier
Attacks from aliens
from outer space
the faint radio signals
from the Martians
were received with laughter on Earth
just as our first footprints
appeared on their dust.

Disjointed Thoughts From A Long Afternoon
I do
the best I can
with the song
I've been given
I know
for as long
as I live
I'll march
to the tune
I've been given
I do as well
as I let myself
never the best
I can.

Aura
If I could bask
even a minute
in the aura
of your golden glow
immersed in the sunshine
bestowed upon me
I would rise
with the innocence
of the new born
to be your child.

Have Your Cake And Eat It, Too
Why be wed
to people and causes
when they can be
flushed away
by the press
of a button
as for the
lingering smell
the exhaust fan
extracts all traces
from his conscience.

My Best Shot
In a fight
I couldn't win
I threw my hat
into the ring
but the fray
felt good
better than
I thought it would
bloodied but unbowed
I stood my ground
my mouth clamped shut.
