The War Zone
Bodies unburied
strewn
by a careless force
a fierce wind plays over
splayed limbs and arms akimbo
carries the assailing smell
of the tip
where the waste
is human
and the great beasts
devour flesh
from unyielding bones
frozen in time.

The Freedom Of Words
A dreamer
Trying to catch
The gold dust
As the sun
Bursts overhead
Illusive
As the cart wheeling seeds
Of the dandelion
Caught in a whirlwind
A maelstrom
All the better
For dispersil
Free from those
Who would eradicate them
As weeds.

Reading the paper in the WC without light
Torches should be
square or rectangle
where I can
put them down
and they won't roll
and break
on the ground.
Dear treasured reader
my dilemma has been solved
most satisfactorily
with a small square LED torch
until the power is back on.

Strewth
You're joking
our Agapanthus
is also called
The Lily Of The Nile
next thing you'll be telling me
bashing a few Indian students
and bunging on a bit
about what'shisname
that Mexican director fellow
youknow the cartoonist's delight
is racist.

Stories My Mother Told Me
Did I know
the ladies
cocooned the worm
between their breasts
for so many days
keeping the little blighter warm
and as the caterpillar
grew big and strong
it was placed
in a box
with Mulberry leaves
where it spun its magic
and silk was born.

One War Too Many
Bloodthirsty
commentators and columnists
brandishing vaunted prizes
like swords
weaving their fictions
into reality
braying for Iraqi, Palestinian and Iranian blood
unsated by the rivers
that flowed down the streets of Iraq and Lebanon
and now Palestine.

The Drought
Grasses are parched
dry as dust
a cancer spreading
dry rust
locust swarms perish
of hunger and thirst
my green patch of lawn
the last
on this once great continent
faces the unblinking sun
and me
mad and sunstroked
holding the waterless hose
melting in my hand.

Haiku
I must fess up
to my ignorance
but I thought
Haiku
was some type
of flake
when I was accused
of submitting
short poems
that didn't measure up
to the mathematical equation
of the Haiku
she must have overlooked
my poems
had more lines
than Flinders Street Station.

You Don't Want To Know
I was worried
was it cancer?
A huge vein protruded
an angry welt
thicker than a finger
braided my behind
over the next few days
it settled down
Thank God
for hemorrhoids
I thought
until the doctor explained
it was common
in hairy Europeans
just an in grown hair.

Still The Pluses Outweigh The Minuses
There's nothing funny
about getting
old
at night
you pull the foreskin
back
to give it
a good wash
bloody thrush
the one that's not a bird
seems to grow
in the fetid environment
in the morning
I have to wash my bum
so the rubbing of the paper
doesn't aggravate my piles.
