Freedom
I do not want happiness.
A little space is all that I want,
and a little freedom
to stretch my almost numb limbs.
My wings are broken now
My dreams all dead.
I would rather be Icarus,
fly high to the sun, escape the double death,
of life in this prison
where my dreams
meet their slow death everyday.

Love is not a prison
My love, I do not believe in chain.
And nor is there any cage,
for love is not prison
nor I, a warden there.
But if you decide to leave just remember,
no tear-stained face with pleading eyes
will be at the door
begging you silently not to leave.
I will not stop you,
knowing oh my love,
if my love is mine alone
it will come back to me,
as the bird that returns to its nest
with the setting of the sun.

Waiting for you
You know, these days sometimes
I am almost in love with death.
You are surprised.
But I too wonder if it is possible
to fall in love with death.
There are times when I feel
I am waiting for death
like a newly-wed bride, almost impatiently,
to come and embrace me, hold me tight.
Kiss my lips with promises never to part.
But I know, like some cruel lover
death will not come to me now.
And will take me by surprise
when I will be dreaming of sunshine and flowers.

Give me sunshine
A heaviness persists on my soul
like a foggy curtain in January morning.
Give me a little sunshine,
the sun refuses to rise in my sky
and clear the morning fog.
My soul feels stranded,
like a car in the middle of the road
in the heavy downpour of the summer rain.
Dragging my soul like a paralytic foot
I am a living corpse.
I am the lonely Crusoe
marooned in some solitary island.
while the sea of crowd around me swarm with life
I look on with longing in my eyes.

The unromantic me
You called me unromantic
but
perhaps I am a coward.
Tangled in the web of tradition and religion
love seems to intimidate me.
My education instil in me
a sense of shame
to admit even at the recess of my mind
my longing for you.
I can not risk being called brazen.
Still
you ignite in me
the age old fire of passion,
make me burn in its flame.
But my education tells me
how wrong I am
to want you, more so
wanting to hold you in my arms.

The sea within
My world
static now.
I am dead to everything
except the sound of the sea
that is within me.
No more calm
but raging with a storm,
the angry waves lashing
against the high cliffs.
But the sea is deep,
down in my heart.
None can witness
the tumult from outside,
the impregnable stoical exterior
bearing no sign of the inner trepidation.
A voice calls out to me
above the howling sound of the sea.
Slowly I raise my head
and see myself, calm and intrepid.

Inner Peace
The morning in late autumn
misty and a little cold
much like the mind
slightly depressed and lone.
The landscape vague, unclear,
the earth seems pensive and gloomy
as it lies before me
like my life's november.
The rays of the rising sun
sweep away the morning mist,
all appear tranquil and bright.
My hopes with it return.
There goes the reaper
walking along the road
that leads to the paddy field,
trailing behind him is the gleaner.
