Alexzia Ferdinand

Hemingway-esque

the moon is a pale face
of lost and losing
and
he is so far away
tonight
window reflections and glass
and moon's pale
face of lonely

The Opposite Of Love

who knew a self titled romantic
would be so harmful?
how could he not comprehend
the depths of a human heart?
that not only are roses red,
but you don't find
forever while windowshopping.
Romantic isn't the correct adjective
for one who understands nothing
about falling in love alone.

Shipwreck Of A Heart

it's bittersweet when we fit together
my puzzle piece and i
he smiles assuringly
hums me sweet sweet melodies
and says he's free now
i believe i want to be free too
fly together, let's
my mockingbird and i

but winged creatures and puzzle pieces aren't
quite compatible
and you made it
astonishingly clear
you're a bird-
i'm a puzzle
and we just
don't seem to
fit
together ever

Biting Winter

with a voice like
a clear subzero
middle of january morning
he sang, whispered
'wait'. Had a quality of clarity
about the sound
like the star on the horizon sharpens
into a constellation
given time.
when everything is now, in this moment
legs move faster, feet
tap rhythmless crazy
faster faster now with
a whirring yelp
yet,
you expect me to wait
cruelty suits you,
that soft grey coat.

But Mostly In The Wrong Direction

day 1
took 1,473 steps today(or rather night) under the dark, weighted
sky, nearly stumbled but the cracks in the sidewalk
can't bring me down
day 34
love left me today(or rather morning)
7,893 steps say run, run, get away
and never come back
day 127
hope returned today(or rather afternoon)
and so did i
with 7,894 steps just to make up for leaving
day 542
walked today (was it morning or afternoon?)
do you know how the cold makes the sunset freeze in gold?
didn't count steps today
much better things to do

For A Friend

and i'll be here for you
my friend
when you fall.
i've read the end of
your well written book.
he always ends up leaving cinderella in the end,
the eternal sunset bleeds away.
i've seen and known and loved and lost.
my friend i fear for
your eyes, now so bright
i fear for
your mind, now in the clouds
most though, i fear for
your heart, now full.
they tend to scatter the pieces when they go.
i see the pure thrills aching through you,
but my cynical mind screams ominous dread.
my friend,
it's not much,
but i am here.

You And I, Dog

dog, you and your lonely howl
fail to affect me, though
haunting, i walk on by
because dog, you and i
we're so different
your forlorn eyes
tracing my movements don't
touch my heart, though clear and seeking
i cannot stop, for dog,
you and i could not be more different
the bone that you nudge in my direction
doesn't compel me to love you
although the gesture is sweet,
sorry dog, we're so different
you and i
but dog, the cage that you sit in
that's familiar and you're alone
surrounded but desolately
remorsefully, and unmistakably
alone
