You Are My Valentine
You are my Valentine
So lovely and divine
You are my Sunshine
With all the riches of a gold mine
But sometimes you are a thorn in my vine
Sometimes you drink the last of my wine
Yet you are my Valentine
A woman so genuine
You are my Valentine
The sweetest lips on which to dine
But sometimes you weigh heavy on my spine
Walk a very thin line I cannot define
Still I choose you as my true Valentine
You create a world I could not design

Downfall of an Affair
It was a delusion
To think I could deflower you
I failed to decipher the debris
That we blindly scattered
It was a dubious attempt on my part
There was no need to dawdle
With the delicacy of the decadence
I made it a debauchery of epic proportions
Unable to defuse such a dolorous ambition
Like a despot lacking any devoir
I failed to demarcate the obvious
Of what I wish of this desiccate romance
How do I navigate from becoming demur
And not denigrate with depravity
To someone so debonair
I think I’ll just die

Dead and Gone
I didn’t attend your funeral
I hated you that much
I did send roses
The thorns for you to touch
I hope they bury you on a slope
So your carcass gets no rest
Your knees will buckle
And your skull rolls past your chest
You know you broke me
Heart and soul and more
My reputation shattered
When you ran out the chapel door
Did I want revenge, you bet I did
Why did I waited so long
Now you’re dead and gone
And I’m at the pub in beer and song

Innocence’s Arrival
Innocence arrived on a late train
Carrying a cargo filled with pain
Defiance got off at the last stop
Leaving growing memories to rot
Deliverance is at the diner car door
Foolishly thinking it could get more
Ego has excessive baggage to unload
When it punched its ticket down the road
Rebellion is riding first class
Ready to kick any pain in the ass
Hope has settled in the back of the caboose
With the fear of never getting loose
So have we let innocence ride too far
With the substance of an empty storage car

Kiss Me Softly
Kiss me softly, kiss me slow
Let me savor
The fruits of our labor
Close your eyes and let the feeling flow
Honey suckle comes to mind
When our lips combine
It’s the best fruit off the vine
You can kiss me hard
Catch me off guard
Make it last
Let go of the past
Apple blossoms fall to the ground
Our earth moves all around
When you place your lips on mine
I don’t have to wait for a sign
Sweet thoughts come so fast
Please don’t let it be the last
Kiss me gently, kiss me long
This is the recipe of a lover’s song
The tenderness was no surprise

Rita Rose
I suppose Rita Rose
Now that you found someone new
I don’t mean anything to you
I suppose Rita Rose
That since I left to fight a war
You don’t need me anymore
I suppose Rita Rose
Now that I’m back again
You want me to forget when
It was me that you chose
Just who are you trying to expose
I suppose Rita Rose
Everybody knows
I ran out on you
I suppose Rita Rose
You’ve already chose
A good alibi too
I suppose Rita Rose
It’s all spelled out in prose
What I’m supposed to do

I Lost My Crown
The day I lost my mind
Was the day you left for good
All the love that was left behind
Wouldn’t bring you back if it could
I lost my reign
I lost my crown
All I have left is a kingdom of pain
Where I lost more than I found
I can’t seem to understand
Why you loved me less
It wasn’t part of the plan
To make my heart a royal mess
I lost my reign
I lost my crown
All my dreams are shattered
All my treasures don’t shine anymore
I can’t believe I never mattered
All I can hear is the slamming of the door
I lost my reign
I lost my crown

Escaping Fear
Escaping Fear
(Idea and input by Anita Atina)
Does fear hold us back
Does it make us lose track
From dreams unfulfilled
From dreams we must rebuild
Love allowed to drift away
Emotional debts left to repay
Passions allowed to wither
Like a snake they slither
What restrains us
What makes us jump on a runaway bus
Fear itself is a necessity
It balances common sense and calamity
It teeters between our heart and brain
Accomplishing things that I can’t explain
Fear is that final taste
That if we don’t try it is all for waste
Failure has its successes
To learn from what it professes

Katrina
The waves, like a misread book
Came pages after page
Kissing the silky sand
With constant rage
The storm would not subside
Pushing and pulling the tide
The waves with steel like claws
Unabated of its flaws
Ripped the shoreline of its efficiency
Moored crafts were offered no clemency
The levees would not hold
An ocean’s rush so fierce and bold
The wind spoke an angry howl
The wings of darkness on the prowl

Believe in Love
Believe in love
It’s not that hard to do
You will see life from a different point of view
You’ll carry around a glow
And everyone will know
That you believe in love
Believe in love
It’s not that hard to do
The beauty of the world opens up to you
You can reach through the evening clouds
And pull down the brightest star
You can soar into the skies with angels
Believe in love and it will take you far
Believe in love
And take total control
Believe me when I tell you
It’s hidden in your soul
No one can do it for you
It all stored up inside
Your heart will tremble
