Let’s Dance

Let me take you by the hand
And lead you to the dance floor
Once more
Let’s embrace to the rhythm
Sway to the melody
And let the music set us free
Set us free
Let me take you by the hand
And spin you round and round
Let’s get lost in the mystery of the sound
So let’s dance
If we ever get the chance
Let’s dance
Whatever the circumstance
Let’s dance
It’s the formula for romance
Let’s dance
So take my hand and get up on your feet
Wrap your arms around me and feel the heat
Our hearts are pounding to the loud drum beat

The Honey Bee and the Rose

The honey bee hovered over the rose
Waiting for it to bloom
Seeking its daily bread I suppose
Before the rose could adorn a room
A butterfly
Hang around nearby
Coordinating its next vector
For the leftover nectar
The honey bee took charge
When the rose stretched its petals to the sky
First in line before the barrage
A nosedive straight into the rose’s eye
A blue jay and a sparrow
Perched high upon a telephone wire
Sang their song of sorrow
As the scene below was catching fire
The honey bee forgot
About the crown of thorns
But the rose did not
A rose lives for the palace it adorns

Transgressions

Ode to Tiger Woods, my hero no more

I must confess
I had these transgressions on the golf course
I knew the rules going in
And I went in swinging from the heels
I putted around
Played with my balls
Even kissed them for good luck
I laid up when I should have used my driver
Now these transgressions won’t get me out of the woods (sic)
And I don’t want them publicized
That would make me look like I was playing in the rough
Every now and then I use my long iron very well
It brings an ah! from the crowd
My woody is my best friend, has got me out of many a jam
Now I feel like I’m in a sand trap
And don’t want to hit a tree with my next shot
Yes I’m sorry for of these transgressions
But I’ll just keep my scorecard in my back pocket

Winter’s Rage

In the vortex of the swirling evil wind
Mother Nature showed its evil grin
Sleet and snow becomes an evil twin
A wolf’s howling can be heard as evil sin

The barren landscape reveals a blinding glare
The bareness sinks into the marrow of a nightmare
A bone chilling feeling comes knocking at the door of despair
A candle light vigil gives refuge a worthless fare

It’s a Christmas Eve like no other
And bitter loneliness has no mother
Winter bares its claws ready to smother
Tempting any fool or his brother

Snowdrifts pile high as they can
Snow blowers shudder through out the land
A winless battle against a harsh wind so bland
Snow blinded by a white light making a stand

The Blind Side

To what courage do we fall
Lest we not hear our commander’s call

Fool nor folly, we must not judge
To our mortal enemy we hold a grudge

Though doubt clouds our mind
No order shall we decline

Reason gathers dust
Since the day we sold our trust

For God and country we march on
As battle cries invade the dawn

Doves stop singing as bullets cry
No shield upon us, only rusted sky

For honor we must die
And high our flag must fly

Butterfly's Dream

I'm having a butterfly's dream
Sealed off from the real world
Shielded from the storm
Yet I feel at home
Having a butterfly's dream
I'm having a butterfly's dream
Looking out, the world looking in
Imprisoned by nature, all alone
Yet I feel at home
Having my butterfly's dream
I can see the pretty colors come and go
The sun is shining, the moon a glow
I want all that to be a part of me
I want my dreaming to become a reality
I want to feel the fresh ocean breeze
I want to rest on flowers, rest on trees
I want to be part of the world that everybody sees
I feel the light flashing in
The air fills my cocoon all too soon
My wings search to spread towards the sun

Ode to Josiah (Living in a Car)

He ran
Fast as anyone can
Away from home
He chose to roam
Didn’t get along
But he took his song
He ran far
Now living in a car
Not much company
Such an epiphany
Freedom rang
Every time he sang
Sleeping in his car
His pillow his guitar
Song his creation
The road his destination
Dreams he has many
Doubts, no room for any
His heart so large
His soul in charge

Tonight I Slept With My Guitar

Tonight I slept with my guitar
Sheet music scattered across the floor
None of my dreams got very far
Each one had you closing the door
The closet’s empty, the suitcase is gone
Was it the drinking, the staying up till dawn
The songs were suppose to be the key
Building for the future for you and me
But the words they would not come
Stuck somewhere on the tip of my tongue
I could write the sweetest melody
But nothing compares to the hurt you left in me
I just couldn’t find that missing chord
I took chances I could not afford
I tried to live in a fictional place
Where happy endings are easy to embrace
Where magic dragons rule the earth
But the prize at the end had no worth
So tonight I slept with my guitar
Staring long into an endless night

Fear Itself

Does fear hold us back
From dreams unfulfilled
Love allowed to drift away
Passions allowed to wither
Does fear envelop us
Will we face it all our life
Do we stand behind the curtain of fear
Afraid to audition hope
Fear need not be our anchor
Taking us down
It can steady our bow
Root us to steady growth
Fear restrains us
From escaping the thorns of pain
It misdirects prayer to an unknown
A misbelief wrapped like a mask
Obscuring visions of the future
Though fear may be a curse
It’s a confrontation we must make
Face to face, we cannot break

Love is a Capricious Lady

Love is a capricious lady
And sometimes she drives me crazy
Sometimes she can be so exotic
With eyes that prove to be hypnotic
Sometimes she is pure as virgin snow
Stands alone a radiant glow
Love is a suspicious lady
Sometimes she is a little shady
Keeps dark secrets from me
Defrauds me of ecstasy
It’s rumored she invented the grapevine
To intoxicate me with her homemade wine
Love is a lethal lady
And sometimes makes my life a little hazy
Sometimes she spices it with thunder
Puts me in a spell to make me wonder
Sometimes she’s a slow burn
Fanning a flame I have yet to learn
Love is a naughty lady
And sometimes she thinks I’m her sugar daddy
