Downward Spiral

Hurtling through a downward spiral
We, the dominant species
Have gone back in evolution
Transforming into a substance more grotesque and lowly
Than the rotting corpse of some dead animal
Where not even the maggots would dare to play

We are a cruel and unusual form of torture to one another
Speech spoken from lips are always words spoken in a tongue
Meant to whiplash and emotionally bruise others like us
Others we think are so different

We are parasitic, despicable beings
Always feeding off another’s pain
Striving to see them beaten, broken
Their pride eaten from the inside out

And all the while we strut a fabricated mask
Of painted worry
Pretending to care about others
