Apart from the actual ride
across the Caucasus
There was the romance of the saddle
undulating under the stars-

Grouse Ridge

One feels it here:
The imponderably ancient
Succession of lives,
Rubble of animal vegetable mineral
Tangled in quiet ravines
Or strewn along mountain lakes,
Momentary the green & sentient
Bound the same,
Wind rising and falling,
Ten thousand years.
