Danielle Moffat

Zen-pupil

A
Haiku:
Natural;
A world contained,
Each line an epic.
Hokusai’s eye is mine!
Blind, I fly over mountains,
Still beasts in ink-wash night fields –
Through life we are united;
A single pressed flower,
Dead beauty so frail,
Opens the door –
This soul soars,
Freedom
Found.

The Dark Side of the Coin

“‘Space, the bound of a solid’: Silence, then, the form of a melody.” - Alice Meynell

I surrender Myself to the dark.

Disappearing in the consummate blackness,
I send up a non-thought to Absolute Silence,
All spaces and the in-between –
To unfathomable frontiers.

I fall down on my knees before the
Celestial sculptors of Reality:
Space, Silence and the in-between;

Their punctuation of Experience
Makes a dwelling place for Dreams
Just as Silence composes a symphony,
Shapes the course of its melody –

Praise nihility!

white skin and an English accent;

to look at me
you'd never realise where i've been;

that part of me is South East Asian,
American, Scottish, African, Australian;

I grew up in Hong Kong
but went to school in the United Kingdom;
first in Scotland, then in Kent;

my parents are both South African,
my boyfriend's from Spain
and my father works and lives in Bahrain-
