Ode to a Sandpiper

'Ode to a Sandpiper' by Dave Hart

Cognoscente of ocean
sand and waves

Peck-nibbling
your days

away

Spindly legs
ever in
prestissimo gait

Strafe the sand
in staccacto flecks

quaff an undulating
tide -
a delectable

From God to God

'From God to God' by David Hart

graves upon mournful graves
O, most heavy heart

Fie, release me from this.
from God to God
from God again to God
I fear. I anger.

minutes, hours, days,
weeks, months and years
from God now return to God.

clouds, dust, rain and sun
from God to God
from God, and again back
to God this day.

Ignite Ice

' Ignite Ice ' by Hart

For the tears of those who cry
Ignite ice and take flight

O great and resplendent Angel
Beautiful nimble and vigilant Angel

Ignite ice from heights on high
Noble wise and goodly Angel
Soar to heaven's delicate heights
Carry the flame of might.

Now a multitude of unholy frights
Will come to holy earthly sites.
Ignite ice and soar oh great

Ancient noble angel
For this and every night
Tame the portending tempest of

Guns of Winter'' by David Hart

''Guns of Winter'' by David Hart
Now the powdered chimney's breath
Exhales canescent puffs
Cruel wiley winter blasts harsh
Pummelling all in it's icy sights

Houses grimace grotesquely and eaves groan moanfully
Donning a new set of crystalline teeth

Anon, shivering birds seem hesitant
Swathed in winter's slicing binds

Icily gothic chandelier trees
Their crackly boughs must cleave
Obedient to the will of winter's
might

The crucible cold holds all to
it's sniping tribulations
Pelican trucks gooble up white streets

The Giddy Tree' by David Hart

'The Giddy Tree' by David Hart

Giddy tree, oh giddy tree
You tickle my funny bones
You see

Your branches swirl and twirl
And you look all gnarled and
Ready to unfurl

You creak and swing with
Ease
In a sweet swirling and
Affectionate breeze

Feisty tree, oh feisty tree
Butterflies dance
And fall in a frenzy
At your knees

The South Side of Chicago'' by David Hart

''The South Side of Chicago'' by David Hart

The South Side of Chicago
Whence those childhood years were spent
Skip-walking upon grimacing cracked sidewalks
Hastening through filth floored garbage canned
flanked alleyways to-

The forlorn house-windows weeping chrystalline shards-
cascading glass tears
'Property Condemned' blared in scarlet on the door.

'Someone lives there' it was said,
'the man who gathers things from the garbage cans'

The pebble strewn church yard, where, in prickly winter,
scarved boys coerce the bell to toll with swift flung
snowballs catapaulted to a shivering bell tower.

The South Side of Chicago,
