A Tuesday in June

Many years before
They had made a pact
On a Tuesday in June
That should they
Both be alone
On this particular Tuesday in June
They would meet
At the same Antique store

As she walked through the doorway
She was pleasantly surprised
To find
An antique...
Very much to her liking

Clearing the Air

Whew!
After what seems like an eternity
Of avoiding our issues...
We've finally had that 'talk' today
And now the air seems clearer

Facts were stated...
Straight and true
With very little feeling
The honesty between us...
Was certainly revealing

I can breathe a little easier now...
The air is looking clearer
The fog has lifted...
Winds have changed
And peace of mind is nearer

My Fondest Childhood Memory

Homework, said my teacher,
Is to write a poem,
About your fondest
Childhood memory

Immediately, I began to shake
And within minutes
A cold sweat had
Come over me

I had dreaded,
Absolutely dreaded,
This day,
This moment in time.

I thought perhaps
I might find an excuse
Such as dogs dying
Or broken water pipes

Today...I will...

Today...I'll look outside myself
If only for awhile
I'll overlook my pain
To make another smile

Today...I'll look outside myself
To see another's grief
And I'll sit quitely and listen
Perhaps bringing some relief

Today...I'll look outside myself
And see from a child's eyes
The beauty and the joy
That all around me lies

Today...I'll look outside myself
I'll twist the hands of fate
Practice random acts of kindness...
I hope I'm not too late!

A Fickle Mistress

Poetry...
She lures us in,
As if with her beguiling grin
She captures hearts inclined to sin

Poetry...
That lady fair
Displays a most defiant glare
When we attempt to leave her lair

Poetry...
Makes us drunk with glee
But, she will never set us free
From that which we desire, but can never be

Poetry...
Entices all
With her soul she does call
To those that she may soon enthral

On Moonlit Night

Beneath a rather sensuous moon
They made a trail through the snow
Through the woods
That creaked from cold
On that Winter's night

She took the lead
Through feathery snow
That seemed the angels had spilled below
He followed swiftly, keeping pace

They stopped
They held a warm embrace
Upon this winter night
When all seemed calm
When all seemd bright
But most of all
It just seemed right

They trampled snow underneath

For the Love of Chocolate

Wouldn't life just be easier
For many in the crowd
If we just renamed the day
And kept the music loud

We'll call it 'For the Love of Chocolate'
Seems a fitting title
No more Hallmark cards
To get us all in trouble

We wouldn't have to fidget
In the card store, as we browse
For that perfect Valentine
Without those sweet and sticky vows

We could buy each other chocolate
'Cuz we know it's what we need
At our age there are no other vices
That we really need to feed
