Murder-Suicide
Murder-Suicide
I saw your eyes
They spoke in your stead
They said things I bet
Your mind hadn't said
Your heart, did, though
'for you choked it subdued
When it whispered your feelings
You strangled mine, too.

Candy Shop
It's Aunt Nora's birthday
She's partial to Belgian chocolates
I go with mama
To the candy shop
'We're here to get a present
for Aunt Nora, ' she admonishes.
'Don't even ask for candy! '
And I promise.
But once inside,
the aroma of the place
The gleaming display cases
Candies winking at me
Like jewels
I know she'll say no
But I just have to ask!

Concrete Garden
I've got a garden in my yard
Outside my kitchen window
And the sounds that kiss my ears?
Not the wind rustling through plants
Not birds, singing as they plunder
Not the thud of hoe against soil
My garden grows in concrete
And the sounds that kiss my ears?
The shouts of laughter
The words of team spirit
The thud of basketball against pavement
That's the fruit of my toil

There Is Such A Thing
There is such a thing as bravery.
That would be me.
But still I quake in my boots.
Acting cool.
There is such a thing as honesty
But you have to have bravery
To wield it
There is such a thing as
Knowledge of Self
But you have to brandish honesty
To learn it
There is such a thing as peace
But you have to Know your Self
To find it
There is such a thing as Happiness
But you have to find Peace
