Silent Echo

Smoke curls upwards and hangs in the air
Late night television flashes
Moonlight pours in and sticks in the haze
As I thoughtfully flick off the ashes

Soft wolfen eyes peer up at me now
He’s wond’ring at just what I’m doing
Lost in the recesses of my contemplation
And this storm that is constantly brewing

No arms wrap around me in the darkness tonight
No muffled endearment is heard
I sigh and lean back as I think on the past
Of this lesson that’s so hard to learn

Life could have been so different, it’s always the case
As I sit on the edge of my bed
Alone I wander through Destiny’s halls
And my fears on the silence are fed
