Burnt Hands

Back off! my dearest
for the sparkling jewel that you see
are glittering coal
that could burn your delicate hands
I beg off you, my love
stay away
for your innocence is misleading you

WHY? ? ?
asked innocence
and the questioned remained unanswered
she inquired again; no reply

equipped with faith, she stepped forward
to rescue the misplaced gem; among the burning coal
she advanced with glaring eyes-and hope
patted her shoulder-go on dear

Screamed innocence, as she touched
the gem was equally hot
