Man of Flesh

She has hair as black as sin
As far as I remember
Her eyes are pools I might drown in
As dark as deep December.

Deep December chills the heart
Tears the body from the soul
But her smile bids the cold depart
Like the sunshine melts the snow.

Like the sunshine melts the snow
Her warm smile unsettles me
Away like meltwater I flow
Man of flesh no more to be.

A man of flesh no more to be
Unless her cup recapture me.

That Old Moon

That old moon keeps shining down
Upon this troubled world;
Generations come and go
And a new flag is unfurled,
That stands for peace, democracy
And all that kind of thing:
It doesn't stop the warfare,
It doesn't stop the murdering.

So if you've ever worried
About that man up in the moon,
If you've ever thought he's lonely,

Another Song to Sing (Second Draft)

When the night is long and dark and cold
And there's nobody around for you to hold,
Don't forget, whatever night may bring,

Remember there's a light at the end of every night,
And every day's another song to sing.
So try to carry on and make it through till dawn,
And listen for another song to sing.

When the clouds hang heavy and so grey
That you can't bear to face another day,
Just remember that, in spite of everything,
Every day's another song to sing.

When everything seems grey and you can't face the day,
When you just wish the world would go away;
Remember there's a spring, once winter's had its fling,

This Present Crisis

I'm afraid this one is past its sell by date, but if you can think yourself back to Christmas 2008, when I wrote it, you might just be able to appreciate it.

Santa's had to lay off all the elves,
And the dust is taking over on Santa's toyshop shelves.
If you want presents this Christmas, you'll have to buy 'em all yourselves,
Because Santa's had to lay off all the elves.

Santa's had bad luck in large amounts;
Lost nearly all his money in Icelandic bank accounts.
When he stood before the debtors' court and the verdict was pronounced,
He said 'There won't be any Christmas cheer now all my cheques have bounced'.

Santa had to cancel Christmas lunch;
When he failed to pay the elves, they polished off all his rum punch.
He can't afford the carrots that the reindeer like to munch,
And the banks won't lend him anything on account of the credit crunch.

The bailiffs came and took everything away,
The last few sacks of toys and things and even Santa's sleigh.
