Electric Lover

With a light in your eyes
you tell me lies
then turn the light off
as you leave
conserving energy

Careless

Careless with her love
and easy with her laughter
she wears her sensuality
with nothing underneath.

Jump

Dying
is the ultimate frontier
if I jump
I'll overcome my fear.

Hear
the crowd
how they cheer
one giant leap for mankind.

Rachel

Rachel
with her bush of hair
and lonely in her overcoat
talks to anyone she can
and tries to ignore
the silent scream inside her head.

Bridegroom

Sheltering beneath the trees
bees buzzing
benevolence
tiny white papery blossoms
confetti-like
falling down on me
but who is the bridegroom
and where is he?

Our Lives

Our lives stutter
beneath the stammering of tongues
the hammering
of blood and bone and muscle
and we burden ourselves
with things
that in the end
don't really matter

Fading Colours

Colours fade and memories too-
Though I try
I keep forgetting you.

But every now and then
it stabs me unawares
I wake up in the morning
and reach out to touch your hair.

God The Mother

I begin to see God as Mother
as the one who holds me to Her breast
as the one who nurtures
as the one in whose arms
l may lie
with complete surrender
with complete trust

Werewolf

Waiting for the silver bullet
howling at the moon.
All his pain in one last cry.
Men with guns and torches
are coming closer now.
In their eyes a savage lust.
Society must always kill
what it cannot understand.

For Julian Aged Twenty Months

To be with any growing child
is to realize
that the moon is astounding
that a snail is a miracle
that the smallest bud
contains more of God
than any cathedral
and how little we know
and how much we have forgotten.
