it also heals.

but also brings tears.

Music inspires,
it never tires.
Music serenades,
it reverberates.

Music incites,
it also excites.
Music exhilarates,
also illuminates.

Music refreshes,
it also revives.
Music mesmerizes,
and also mystifies.

Just One Sun and So Many Sunrises

Just one Sun
and so many sunrises.
Just one Universe
and so many nations.

Just one nation
and so many living beings.
And all life -
at the mercy of the Sun.

One part will soon welcome the Sun,
yet another has embraced it already.
One part has bid farewell to the Sun,
another will soon follow.

Sunrise upon sunrise,
each part of the world -
gets its turn to be engulfed
in daylight and darkness alternately.

Beauty Need Not Be Truth

A beautiful house need not be a home,
a beautiful person need not be humane,
a beautiful book may have writings profane,
a beautiful office building may be rife
with dishonesty and shame.

A beautiful dress may not impress,
a beautiful bag may be filled with trash,
a beautiful ornament need not be of gold,
a beautiful car may never get sold.

We all know too well -
“All that glitters is not gold”.
Keats said: “Beauty is truth, truth beauty, - that is all…”
But beauty need not be truth -
We need to realize this before we fall.

Chocolate in the Rain

Dark clouds
loom in the sky;
now the sound of thunder -
breaks the stillness of the evening air.

A flash of lightning
lights up the dark sky.
A light drizzle at first -
and then a heavy downpour.

My heart revels…
at the beautiful sight
of the white rain
outside my window.

And my mouth waters as I see...
a large slab of dark chocolate on the table.
Is this not a little unfair
that it should be just sitting there?

Poetry is not my cup of tea,
I’d strongly recommend that
they watch “Dead Poet’s Society”.

Poetry is in your cup of tea,
poetry is in every wave of the sea,
poetry is in the song of a bird
poetry springs forth from each of your word.

Poetry is in the smile of a baby,
poetry is in the redness of a ruby,
poetry is the union of your heart and mind
poetry teaches you to be soft and kind.

Poetry is the song of your soul,
poetry reminds you of your life’s goal,
poetry is in a game of cricket,
poetry is in the sound of a cricket.

Together We Will...

Together we can weed out corruption,
Together we can put an end to racial discrimination.
Together we can fight against terrorism.
Together we can wage a war against child labour.

Together we can root out the dowry menace.
Together we can stop red tapism.
Together we can say NO to alcohol, drugs and tobacco.
Together we can bid goodbye to deceit, greed and falsehood.

Together we can respect our environment.
Together we can get rid of pollution.
Together we can prevent global warming.
Together we can preserve our dear planet.

Together we can follow the only religion of Humanity.
Together we can embrace Honesty, Truth and Non-violence.
Together we can celebrate Fraternity, Freedom and Justice.
Together we WILL live as ONE great nation.

As the School Bell Rings

Tis sharp two
in the afternoon.
The school bell rings
as the day is done.

After calm comes a storm
and the school ground now
is a turbulent sea -
of children in frenzied activity.

Some are running, some sprinting,
some scampering while some are strolling.
Some are walking towards the gate
while some are squatting on the staircase.

Some are running towards the school bus
while some are looking out for their parents.
Some are being escorted by their teachers
while some are busy chatting with their friends.
