They came from another world

They came from another planet
Somewhere deep in space,
To visit this place called planet earth
With a message to the human race.

They came here to warn us
That our world will not survive'
If we didn't take care of our environment
And the very things that keep us alive.

They said that if we didn't heed their warning
The end will be coming soon,
And our world will be devoid of life
And be as desolate as the moon.

A tale of autumn

Swallows begin their long journey south
To escape the winter cold,
They fly across a landscape
Of autumns brown and gold.

Squirrels are busy gathering nuts
To hide in their winter store,
The shorter days and longer nights
Tell us that autumn is here once more.

Geese fly in formation
Across the autumn sky,
While a curlew in a distant field
Sounds out a lonely cry.

The holly tree is a mass of red berries
That will give all the birds a treat,
Before the first snow of winter
Comes blowing in from the east.

A tale of summer

Swallows catch insects on the wing
In the early morning sun,
And a cuckoo calls to tell us
That the summer has now begun.

The flowering meadow comes alive
With butterflies and the sound of bees,
Cherry blossom showers down like confetti
Carried on the summer breeze.

Swift and house martins arrive back from afar
Making a welcome sight,
And a nightingale sings on a summer evening
And on into the night.

The sweet smell of honeysuckle
Fills the evening air,
While fox cubs play on the edge of a coppice
The beauty of summer is everywhere.

The Beach On A Winters Day

The rows of wooden groynes where we once bathed in warm sunshine
Are now battered by the sea,
Waves crash along the shoreline
And go on endlessly.

The beach that was so crowded with people in the summer
On what seemed like endless days of sun,
I walk along the deserted seashore
And now I am the only one.

I think about those summer days
Of barbicue picknicks and strawberries and cream,
But now these cold dark winter days
Make the summer like some very far off dream.

I stand and look up at the clifftops
That tower above me so high,
While out at sea lights of distant ships
Light the darkened sky,

The ravens of Ecclesbourne

The dark shadow of a large corvus
A mere crow,
No'a bird far larger far more supreme,
The harbinger of doom so they say
As if cast from some dark dream.

The raven'
Mystical bird of days of yore,
Glides over me to find a resting place on the cliff
Just beyond the rugged shore.
The silence only broken by their occasional deep croak
A voice far deeper than of any crow that I have heard before.

Like some dark spirit
Free from the confines of the historical tower,
Their dark shadows only eclipsed
By the black clouds of a passing shower.

I stand and watch in fascination
Of their arial acrobatics high above,
