Dogs Are The Best People
Experiencing the depth of love
The sincerity of being loyal
The compassion in regard to sorrow
The steadfastness to follow you
Wherever you lead at the moment
The happiness to see you again
And the un-faked hurt
When being reprimanded
The velvet touch of the tongue
To ease your injury and pain
How auspicious my existence
If only to look into the brown eyes
And know you're truly loved…

The Promise
With the start of every day
My love for you will never sway
I will lead you through arduous bogs
And protect you in cumbrous fog
A flower will grace your luminous hair
You will be surrounded with loving care
At night when La Luna shines bright
My arms' will hold you tight
Awaking to the morning light
And when your hair has turned to grey
My love for you will never sway
I keep this promise to our last day

Soul Searching
Summertime and my heart is happy
Every bloom exudes a sweet perfume
Delicate creatures on feathered wings
Warble songs that fill the air
Butterflies without a care
Rays of sunlight filters through
The paths I take the one I knew
Let me walk in peace
Enjoy the simple things in life
And never strife to hold
What is not mine to keep
Then, when I go to the place I know
It will not count who I was or what I had
Only, was I bad?

When Every Sunset Counts
Sunset glow how well I know
You're warming rays upon my face
It was not always so
That I adored your glow
In youths and haste
It was a terrible waste
But as the autumns passed
And seasons rushed so fast
I prayed to ease the pace
I long for sunshine on my face
Each spring I wait
Behind the Iron Gate
To hear a robin's song
And knew it won't be long
Before I dance along the sandy shore
I feel the sunset glow
And wished it was forever so.

Prisms
I wake in the morning and to my delight
Precious white crystals reward my sight
During the night while the world lay asleep
Mother Nature spread a blanket so deep
Sleeping beneath and covered with snow
Are the flowers for the next springtime show
Winter has entered and taken a hold
Changing the landscape making it bold
Reign little droplets of frozen delight
And turn this world into a wondrous sight
All too soon you will depart
Melted will be your prisms' art

Lyric Simplicity (Revised)
When I write a poem it comes from the heart
It is the place for a really good start
What I have written is impetuous in its purpose
Trying to make sense and not be a bore
Fancy words are not at my core
Days and months go by and to my great frustration
My mind goes blank without information
But then it happens and the words just flow
The spirit soars and my heart is aglow
I am no Pablo Neruda, Rilke, nor Goethe or Keats
I have to go on writing spreading my own seeds.

If I Should Leave Today
If I should leave today
Do not be sad tomorrow
I have tasted honey sweet
And had my share of sorrow
I listened to the robin's song
It filled my heart with pleasure
I have known so many souls
And count them all as treasure
I will miss the evening glow
And perhaps the winters snow
The murmuring wind in swaying pines
And fragrant flowers on the vines
There is a promise I will keep
That for your soul I seek
And wait for you beyond the grave
Until you're home with me and safe…

Mama's Girl
A child I got my mother said
A blue eyed girl with just one curl
Upon that tiny head but still I bet
Someday braids will crown that face so red
The years flew by the body grew
And Mama said it still is you
Hard times have formed the mind
Important is be always kind
And so I grew to womanhood
A happy gal she knew I would
With children to the count of five
It made my life a busy beehive
I always remember my dear Mama
And teach my children her dogma
Hard time may not have formed their mind
But still I say, please always be kind.

Das Lied von einer Sommernacht
Hell schien der Mond in dieser Nacht
Als meine Liebe neu erwacht
Das Blut wie Wein durch meine Adern floß
Und Pfeile in mein Herze rein schoß
Meine Seele voll verlangen barst
Ihn zu erwarten hier am Horst
Der einzige Zeuge unserer Liebe war
Die Sommernacht so hell und klar
Der Fluß sein Lied uns leise sang
Und wie Musik dann in the Ästen hang
Laß niemals enden diese Nacht
Bis blaß der Sternenhimmel in all seiner Pracht
Ich musste gehn von diesem Ort
Geblieben ist ein kleines Wort
Gemeiselt in den großen Stein
Meine Liebe ist für immer dein.

Shattered Dreams (Revised)
Where are my dreams from yesterday
The promise of enduring passion
Benevolence and golden rays
A wreath of flowers crowned my head
They now are wilted laying dead
The sound of music so sweet and deluding
Has left me alone and brooding
I shall not stand and suffer the fool
Who has taken my love and treated me cruel
Replaced is the gown of silver threads
And all thoughts that filled my head
Be quiet I tell my battered soul
I will not dig a deeper hole
Wipe away the tears of sorrow
And wait for dawn to single
The beginning of a bright new day
Then fill your heart with hope of freedom
From the pain you tasted yesterday.
