Of Man And His Inferiors

When Eve and Adam defied God,
A sparrow rent its shell and flew in the sun;
When Judas was paid his fee,
There was a beaver somewhere with work to be done;
While the Kaiser bombarded a cathedral in Rheims
A tigress was busy defending her young,
And while Hitler made Lidice a funeral pyre,
A cricket was voicing a song to be sung;
The part I have told you is but a fraction of all:
Among his least God's will endures,
While man wills freely to fall.
