Humanity, on the Brink

Humanity, Webster can't define
Seems simple enough to find
Perhaps, all that is good
In every humans birth package
Yet, still, illusive to most
A grey area with countless examples
It can be knitted and intertwined
With god and religion, but
Exists without either
Most frequent use, humane treatment
Be it friends, family, convicts, terrorists or pets
So many adjectives to contemplate
But no real resolute definition emerges
Because humanity is so personal
Inhabiting the nebulous realm of ethics
Another can of worms
Good, bad, moral, discipline, obligation
How we ingest, digest and outwardly manifest
Our worlds intrusion into OUR space
As for me, I'm teetering on the brink
