Jude Cullup

Through Shadows

i remember grown men
telling tales
around an open fire.
they told me not to stay up late.
courage doesn't listen.
i watched that fire burn down.
i went walking through the shadows
through the darkness that stirs
in the belly of an evening forest.
i'm still that boy watching the fire
i'm still walking
through the shadows.
