Don't Ever Come, O December

Look December
Don't ever come now!
Look, December
Deserts unnumbered have expanded in me.
All my rivers
Are silted with the sands of loneliness.
Now only I
And the weight of my loneliness
Remain together.

Look, December
In your frozen nights
In your sleepless nights
Who will knit dreamlike sweaters?
Who will pick snowflakes falling in the soul?

Look, December
Don't ever come now!
And even if you do come
Don't go to the abodes of the sun

Where Did You See Her?

Have you ever ventured
Beyond the dreams
Where the sulking night
Angry with her lovers, the moon and the stars
Dabs her bare body with ashes
And dances around a bonfire?

Have you ever peeped behind eyelashes
Into tired blue eyes
Where a whole world of woe
Swims in spaces unfathomed?

Have you ever spent a day
Under the greenwood trees
Erect sentry-like on each side of the road
Where the sun struggles
To find its way?

Have you ever asked
A wayfarer, a stranger

Where They Come From?

Bullet or a bomb
Both are blind and numb
Wall or a roof
Body or a soul
Wherever they hit
They make a pit
Make all foul
Trees and flowers
People like towers
Concrete or soil
Plastic or foil
Glass or lumber
In no time they spoil
Scenes of love
Peace and dove
They aim to destroy
Happiness and joy
Whenever they explode
It's life they erode
Flesh and blood

Adieu! Our Guest Birds

Adieu, our guest birds, adieu!
Adieu, till the next year!
Next year when you'll bring the scriptures of your flight
We would be waiting for you on the lake shore
Earth would feel the return of love
With the soft touch of your silk-soft feathers
But verily till the next year
The waters of the lake will have
The uncouth growth of sedge
Winds will carry the thick sediment of
black dust and smog
Sharp saws of new roads
Would have cut down fields, grassy meadows and thick forests
Into bits and scraps
The hunting seasons will intensify their intrigues.

Adieu! Our guest birds, Adieu!
Till you visit us again the next year
We'll celebrate the sorrow of your return.

Living Trophies

On their way to school
Carrying dreams of future
In their book bags
Kids grow into old man
Their prattle
Like tiny butterflies
Continue to live.

Of dreams and their interpretations
Of brightly lit hands
And happy lines of fate
Folks seperate from us
Their memories
Continue to live.

In the eve-time loneliness
In the head-splitting deep gaze
Like withering dreams
Scenes get blurred
Glued to the path - eyes

A purgatory of foggy dreams

A memory lingers on familiar lanes
An ache awakens on old pathways
A hue unique in the buds
A flower aloof in a vase
A melody in foliage drenched
A vine entwined around a column
A dawn lights up from its source
An eventide suspends time and space
A captive moon in the pane
A night so deep and intense
A desolate spirit, holes in its being
A hand on a dagger rests
An assault on the earth made
A mantle green on barren field
A garland of arms, touch of rose
A banyan of centuries decayed
A purgatory of foggy dreams
An era of waking sleep
It's a legend of a life time
Despair and grief in joy abides!

The Door Of No Return

Those who passed from this door
Were negroes
With centuries-old ethos permeating
Their swarthy bodies.

This door
(The door of no return)
Opening on to an ocean
Was the gateway to
The Brave New World of slavery.

A return journey
Was only a scintillating dream
Reflected in the eyes of
The multitude of skeleton-like bodies
Aboard the sea-going vessels.

This door
On the shore
Now admits the white masters

Cross On One's Own Shoulder

We had met
On the threshold of a dream
Or in the sprawling hall
Of torturous silence
Of sleepless moments.

Only if chandeliers of memory
Are lighted
Will I ever know where!
All scenes get blurred in darkness.

Words, dots, dashes,
Only if they emerge from the underworld of meaning
Perchance, perhaps then
A forest of meaningfulness
Might grow from the desert womb
Of sterile writings.
Clouds form in azure-blue chalice of the sky.

Indeed, who should I ask about it?

Had Ocean Been My Confidant

Had ocean been my confidant
I'd have given it
All of my truths for safekeeping

Tales i would have written
Of seashells picking girls on beaches
Whose golden bodies were
Like isles of dreamland
But whose fates were
Like lines drawn in sand.

Had ocean been my confidant
I'd have given it
All my loneliness
I'd have walked with the wind
Clasping its finger in my fist
On distant paths
From whence no one comes back!

Had ocean been my confidant

A Faceless Portrait

Never-ending paths seemed to be ending
At yet there was no indication
Of a destination, a fruitful conclusion.
Realizing this he said
Come, Let's try to locate
Our lines of fate on the wind's palms!
And then azure waters
Frozen still from the dawn of time
Reverberated into expanding circles on the surface.

When the yellowed desert-like womb of time
Saw the birth of the sprouting
Shoots of woe
He was busy
Watching from the sea shore
Sails of boats.
The burning sand on the rims of his eyes
Had become wet.

And then it happened
