Love is....
A child peeking around a pant leg
A leaf buried 'neath an early snow
A kite torn from small hands unwary,
that goes where ere the wind may blow.
A small soft puppy that needs attention
A full grown cat, that's fine alone
A teenage ego, frail but seeking,
to define its future on its own.
A feather floating on the water
A ripple made by drops of rain
A weathered old man, shaped by memory
some by good times, some by pain.

I Dont Need to Understand
The problems of this world are large,
lifes trials are so demanding.
I need a God beyond my ken,
beyond my understanding.
I've not the means to know each thread
within life’s knitted veil,
but He that works the Weavers wheel,
knows every strand so well.
So I lift my prayer to He who knows,
in He that loves His own.
I know full well He hears, He helps...
and to whom my prayers are flown.
I leave the details to my God
and trust that in His grace,
He will keep me close within His arms,
in His healing... warm embrace..

If This Be Love
Hope gives in to longing thought,
of all desires that I've sought.
A wanton heart might now be caught,
if this be love, that you have brought.
Can love..hope..grow where pain abides;
Where doubt and fear are justified?
I willingly throw both arms wide,
if faith can bring you to my side.
Give in! give in! My heart cries out,
For once find out what loves about.
These walls I've built so strong and stout,
like Jericho, fall at the shout.
A newborn babe, my soul lies bare;
vulnerable to trap and snare.
I gladly place all in your care.
If this be love...that we would share.

At Waters Edge
At waters edge we dared the night,
to hold the moment, never end.
To hold back dawns encroaching light,
and count each second...saviour..friend.
We lay upon the grassy slope,
the stars looked down in jealousy.
Of what was starting...passion? ...hope?
or of what they thought was meant to be.
Each touch, enough to make us wonder,
of all we ached for, never found.
Protective walls now torn asunder,
revealing pain torn, fertile ground.
The tears that flowed with unsure yearning,
were kissed away with hopeful pledge,
That time would fan what started burning,
that night upon.... the waters edge.

Truth
I found our love shaped like a rose
on a lonely empty street,
It seems so strange, so sad, to find it
lying at my feet.
With quilty heart and teary eyes
I picked it from the dirt.
I wiped away the tears, the pain.
I wiped away the hurt.
I took it home and nurtured it,
spending hour after hour.
To make our red rose bloom again.
To save our love...the flower.
I cared for it and wept for it,
until one early morn.
the rose looked new, I grabbed in haste
and was needled by its thorn.

Until Later
I count the passing of the days.
with tears that mark the grey veils task,
and note life’s sad and passing ways
which called my mother home at last.
I find in me the weight of lead
My soul too slow to flee earth's drag
And think of words your heart had said
knowing time apart does lag.
Yet in your promise much is told
And through memories, new portraits etched
That those who knew your loving soul
Saw reflected in you...Heaven stretched.
Now I sit upon the rivers edge
oft thinking of the other side.
And make a solemn hopeful pledge
That someday with you I'll abide.

Where was the guard at hearts gate
Where was the guard at hearts gate
Where was the warning cry
How could he let you enter and hurt me
Why did he let you walk by
Where was the keeper of wisdom
Why was there no sage advise
Where was the counsel I now know I needed,
When I yearned for a heart made of ice
Where were my trusted companions
Who swore they would keep me from harm
Why weren't they here in the time of my downfall
When I fell for your lies and your charm
Where is the lady who promised
Her love was forever and true
Why claim her words hold a truth and a power
Then casually find love anew.

Without You
Without you...I walked in darkness
Though, I thought that I could see.
Without you...I was but half a man
missing the better part of me.
Without you...I held tightly
to all the pain that I'd been through.
I would have never known what 'forever' meant....without you.
Without you....I sifted ashes
vainly looking for the flame
Without you...I searched through others eyes
but they all looked the same.
Without you...I thought that second best
was the best that I could do
I could never lay that lie to rest....without you.
Without you....I'd still be wondering
if love was truly real.
Without you....I'd never really know
just how perfect this could feel.

Beneath the Shadow of the Cross
When family's tears flow like a fountain,
That comes from heartache and in loss,
Let's meet somewhere on Calvary's mountain,
beneath the shadow of the cross.
Where silent sobs of heartfelt moaning,
Would clutch us in the dark of night,
And broken hearts are filled with groaning,
Let's give to God our tortured plight.
It's in these times we come together,
For strength and blood are intertwined.
Tightly gripping to loves tether,
we deal with grief that's unconfined.
Grant to us but just a measure,
To understand you laid to rest,
A heart of gold, a precious treasure,
For heaven truly took the best.

Time
I float through time with riddled thought
Amazed I've found the love I sought
That time once judged by hurt and doubt
When pain was all I knew about
Would now be seen through joyous hue
Of memories I make with you
And time, though once my enemy
Has come to be an azure sea
Upon which now I spread a sail
And pray for loves puissant gale
To take me ‘cross time's vast domain
And place me in your arms again
Where once its waves at twilights gloam
Would dare to take me far from home
I find, with time, a steady guide
Secure to trust its certain tide
Will take me to your hallowed shore
And leave me humbled at your door
