Buddha Jayanti Day

BUDDHA JAYANTI DAY

Our unshed tears with sorrow and pain,
Gets engraved on our face with passing
years!
I take solace from Buddha's enlightened
and sublime face,
The Lord who transcends all sorrow and
fears!
On this sacred day of His birth, as my time
gradually draws near,
I seek His blessings to give me strength,
And my mind to transcend those unshed
tears!

My Evening Star

MY EVENING STAR
In the gathering gloom of my evening
sky,
I saw your face in that evening star;
Showering your brightness and your
magic light,
To dispel my gloom from afar!
While in my heart a sad old tune, -
A tune of sadness and of love,
Played like the melody of an old violin,
And I listened as if in a waking dream!
For you have left me and gone afar,
To shine as my enduring evening star!

philosophy Of Give And Take!

PHILOSOPHY OF GIVE AND
TAKE!

It is very often said, that Delhi culture is one
of ‘give and take’!
If you give with one hand, with the other
you must take!
But why alone blame Delhi, for this kind
of philosophy? !
Has not this culture now slowly spread? !
I read your poems only, after mine are
also read? !
Friends, in these lines I have merely recalled, -
What a lady poet of Delhi told me once, -
over the phone!
So now I leave it to the readers of poem-
hunter.com, -
To prove her right, or to prove her wrong!

the Fisherman

THE FISHERMAN

All his life in his sun-burnt boat he is out there
on the sea,
To eke out an honest living with his catches at
sea!
The sea is his second home, where his soul
breathes free!
The sea remain placid, the sea remain calm,
Rocking his boat gently like a mother patting
her son!
But when the sea raves and foams in the mouth,
The fisherman calmly surveys the distant storm
clouds!
He silently sets sail towards the safe shore;
Though at times he boldly tries to ignore!
And should his boat overturn and capsize below,
His mother will keep him afloat - as he swims
to the shore!

Change!

CHANGE!
With this world we slowly change,
As our priorities also rearrange!
In that way we can keep abreast of
things,
And not topple off - as the world spins!
Old order of things beget new,
With advanced technology we break
through!
As we evolve from our glorious past, -
The past doesn’t entirely forsake us!
With every change we make a new
start!
Adapting to change has become an Art!
But can someone tell me honest and true,
With all those technical break throughs, -
Has there been any change of heart? !

A Bouquet Of Roses

A BOUQUET OF ROSES

When greeted by a bouquet of thirty roses
on the anniversary day,
A mixed feeling rose within, and I didn’t
know what to say!
But I thanked the Lord for that special day!

For long I had developed an attitude towards
roses you know,
As I watched its thorns and reddish glow!
When painted like the ‘Sunflower’ they neither
die or fade, -
A visual feast for the eyes, while olfactory nerves
remain dead!

Roses like humans when cut off from their
roots,
They gradually wither and fade, as roses should!
But its lingering perfume forever remains,

Thoughts For The New Year

THOUGHTS FOR THE NEW YEAR
(2008)

It took me a billion years to come to my
present form and shape;
Distilled from space and time,
And blessed with His heavenly grace,
To reflect His glory and sing His praise!

But our selfish ways and divergent creeds,
Coupled with our insatible greed,
Instead of creating a harmonious fusion,
Suceeded in creating utter confusion!

May we now unite with a single thought,
Of peace and love and the all loving God,
Forgetting our hatred and greed,
Breeding the dove of peace within;
Embracing our world, and all as one,
Laced with the sprit of friendship and love,

The Death Rattle

THE DEATH RATTLE!

For days on end I heard that groan,
As if something was stuck in her
throat as she moaned;
A constant croaking in a subdued low
tone!
The doctor called it the ‘death rattle’, -
When the body begins to lament for the
departing soul!
Since all our earthly coming together,
Must one day surely end in departure!
That has been the general law of nature!
Then suddenly one day, during the early
hours of the morn,
All groans had ceased, as her body lay
cold,
It was an hour before the break of dawn!
My mother’s soul had passed on ……,
She must have seen a better dawn!

A Prayer For A Stout Heart

A PRAYER FOR A STOUT HEART

How can I stake all my love, -
At the mercy of this fickle heart?
A heart that is delicate and fragile,
A heart that ignores the reasoning mind? !
A heart that feels both love and hate,
Gets ensnared by beauty and trapped by fate? !
A heart that changes its color and beat,
A heart which appears to be incomplete?
Faced with all those temptations of this world –
both spurious and pure,
How can my foolish heart distinguish and
endure?
So I prayed to the Lord to give me a heart that
is stout,
Like Richard the Lion Heart, both steadfast and
without doubt!
To wage a Crusade against all that is impure,
And abide by true love to forever endure!

fate And Destiny!

**FATE AND DESTINY!

I couldn’t quite figure out till date,
If destiny makes us or we make our fate!
If what is destined can never be changed,
Why struggle at all, just blame it on fate? !
But today I recall that old story line,
Young Napoleon was once a truant child!
His worried mother took the child, -
To seek a fortuneteller’s advice!
The old teller had smiled and said, -
‘Madam your son has no line of fate! ’
Young Napoleon took out his pen knife,
Cut his palm to carve his fate line!
Rest is history nothing more need be said;
You may now decide about that line of
fate!
