July 4th
On the fourth, July reflected
fireworks green red blue
huge flowers shimmer,
burst, bang crackle
but July did not hear or see.
Dead eyes up-mirror
tiny celebrations, skies flash
over a naked
child, sprawled back
on a warm rooftop
of a new york
tenement tower.
Birthday murdered,
damned fine 4th party.
Clutches a spent sparkler
in a colder hand.
