The Fireman

He walked with calm and grace
Into the burning blaze
He was a liar
When talking about the fire
Of course it scared him
Almost to the brim

But still he made it in
With fears and a grin
To cover his face he wore a gas mask
So smoke wouldn’t distract his task

His comrade in the fiery battle
Tripped over a toy rattle
Before the fire could claim his mate
He pulled him back from fate

The pair found a woman frail
Clutching with her a water pail
She kept on fretting
