Koi - A Cinquain

Koi

Ever so small

Swimming in languid grace

Amidst beautiful lotus

Blissful

Mummers (a waltz poem)

When
the moon
does
veil
the sun in
shadow
then
appears
the ghostly
masquerade where
masked phantoms
waltz in
an
endless
dance to then
fade in
the
bright sun's
rays

Release (a tritina)

The day had closed upon my heart
And the darkness had slowly settled in
Casting shadows across love's fallow fire

So pale and dim was that smoldering fire
It lay idle and dormant within my heart
Until that day love whispered 'let him in'

And with one breath did love surge in
A mighty torrent that set my soul to fire
Releasing love's rapture within my heart

Your star now burns in that fire of my heart

Ode to a Butterfly

Butterfly, oh butterfly, why do you hide in the shadows?
Spread wide your wings, let your heart sing
And come dance with me in the meadow

Butterfly, oh butterfly, why do you fear?
You'll never stray, I'll lead the way
Just follow the path, I'll be near

Butterfly, oh butterfly, have you no hope?
Drink of the sun, our life's just begun
Thro time's hills and valleys we'll lope

Butterfly, oh butterfly, dare you to dream?
On our hearts we depend, shall we follow the wind
And consign to the fates grander scheme?

Facade (a tritina)

So many have come to dwell behind a panarchy mask
Lost between the delusive dimensions of identity
Unable to perceive that which is deemed real

They dare not throw aside the caparison that veils the real
Lest those that wish to deceive and to mask
Would reveal the abstersive truth of their own identity

Yet if all would but don the verisimilitude of their identity
Then the shadows cast would corrivate into the real
And no longer would there lie merit within a mask

Are you the mask of your identity or are you real?

Depicting Reflection

I gaze at the looking glass one final time
As I hope for some veritable truth to find
But the cracks run along my face in jagged lines
As the mirror cracks from side to side

Peering into the cold, dark faceted eyes
A broken poppet stares back from inside
And I catch a reflection of that I despise
As the mirror cracks from side to side

The scarred reflection is now forsaken
And many are the times my heart has died
But now it is my soul that is breakin'
As the mirror cracks from side to side

I gaze at the looking glass one final time
As the mirror cracks from side to side

To Catch A Falling Star

My heart was once a falling star
That burned with a dying light
But her fall was not very far
As you plucked her from the night

Most carefully you sighed a kiss
Keeping her fragile light aflame
And oh what a grand gesture was this
As she was not an easy star to tame

You held her close in your warm embrace
Praying the little star reclaim her glow
Quickly she returned from her fall from grace
As it was your love that helped her light grow

When all the heaven's bemoaned her return
You so gently tossed her back to the night
And how fierce does her little flame burn
Ever will she shine within your love's light

Care For Some Tea? - A Kyrielle

If you are smart, you will listen to me
Remember not all tales are just make believe
Dragons in snuggies are not just seen on TV
Never say yes when a dragon invites you to tea

I don't know how I got there, I hadn't a clue
But the next thing I heard was one lump or two
And he smiled most wide with his eyes all agleam
Never say yes when a dragon invites you to tea

His teeth were all pointy, as long as my shoe
And with a smile like that, who was I to refuse
So I smiled as I stammered 'can I have three? '
Never say yes when a dragon invites you to tea

If you are smart, you will listen to me
Never say yes when a dragon invites you to tea

It Doesn't Pay To Wear Red (A Kyrielle)

No Matter what the Captain might say
When he urges you to take part of that fray
You are better off to remain in Sick Bay
It doesn't pay to wear red when your on an 'Away'

The Captain will encourage you to be a brave young man
But neglects to tell you they'll use you as prey
And it is so easy to fall to his charismatic command
It doesn't pay to wear red when your on an 'Away'

You might want to reconsider stepping through that door
And by now I know this may sound a little cliche
Just ask any-red wearing Ensign that has gone before
It doesn't pay to wear red when your on an 'Away'

No matter what the Captain might say
It doesn't pay to wear red when your on an 'Away'

Spring Rains (a Villanelle)

There shall come Spring rains
When all seems lost to the cold decay
And Winter shall release its icy reign

When hopes anew are all but slain
By the bitter hold of frigid days
There shall come Spring rains

Vernal longings shall make their way
As colors emerge from shades of gray
And Winter shall release its icy reign

Nature's display may seem bleak and inane
As Winter's chill yet still remains
There shall come Spring rains

Joy will abound where sorrow had lain
As Spring once more holds sway
And Winter shall release its icy reign
