Be God - Be Silent

Fear the spoken silence
For you know nowt
Why or where the sentiment
or if indeed, its contented silence.

Old Man So Young

Old man so young
Old tricks, new belt, old bag o’ nails
New shoes, same feet, now going flat
To me, a young man, so full of heart
An old man full of himself, just hisself

Old man so young
Old skin, new cells, old bag o’ bones
New hat, same eyes, now needing sight
To me, a young hero, rising from scarring fights
A rich man full of himself, just hisself

Old man so young
Old voice, new teeth, old bag o’ sand
New hip, same dance, soul in his veins
To me, a young baron, whose time will long reign
An epic full of himself, just hisself

Absent Friends

Those eyes that smile wickedly, each time you wink
That belly laughter that echoes, in rooms you enter
This side of life has its highs, never of your ilk
You my friend has the core...new word for cool I hear
How I want to resound your laughter...this side of town or there!

Your silly laugh and better judgement, acumen diverse
The beauty in your eyes, to search for rays, amidst dark clouds
Your patience to sit through stories, of my life in reverse
Braving the weather, seasons, manmade and the Gods
How I yearn to wear your shoes, that side of town or here!

One Child's Prayer

I wish my Daddy would live here
I wish he didn’t have to go away
I wish if he could only for one day
Perhaps tell me he loved me at all
I would have known a father’s mind

I asked Santa, Tooth Fairy and even God
On Sundays and all ordinary days
I wish if he could only for just one day
Pass me by just so I’d wave him goodbye
I would have seen a father’s hand

I pray to God, Tooth Fairy and even Santa
On Sundays and all ordinary days
I wish I could find the bestest prayer
For my mother and all those who talk to me
For they have given me the mostest love

Amen

Empty Commiserations

She says she doesn’t, he says he doesn’t
says he wants freedom yet his mind can’t let go
She’s not there, now and again she is
Says she needs romance but he has too much passion
Says he needs passion but she hasn’t the romance
It’s complicated, we are together but we are not

He’s looking for a mint coin, mint-cruise exploration
Says she wants prince charming but charms no princes
She’s hunting for a solar-magnet, cosmic stardust
Says he’s set in his ways and she wants to change me
Says she’s independent, he wants to control me
When the gold rush slows, smouldering fires quickening

He says he’s not found ‘her’ yet, she says she hasn’t fallen
Boundless adventures sought, there are plenty of fish
A good loose heart both say, fired up, revving for a new start
There is no guilt, no disappointment and no pain they say
Yet a jealous flicker burns, and occasionally commiserate…moaning

Horse Draws Man a Cow

'Stupid Cow! ' prospective mother in law hissed
Princess Bride, shimmering 'Old Horse', and giggled
Banishing each other to their hindly quarters
Loving Colt today also a dashing groom hoofed, in bridles

Old Horse to bridled colt, yelling across the lawn
'I taste it! The grass is greener on the other siiiiiide...! '
Stupid Cow fuming, stamping Old Horse's pawn
'That Old Horse can now gallop home! - Go on for a ride! '

Dashing groom huffing, nervous and perplexed
Spectators murmuring behind powdery carnations
Maids exchanging glances perturbed, stupid cow vexed
Uncle Colin eyeing Glenda's mocha rum fondants,

Huffing, perplexed groom accompanied by bestman
An entourage of suited jockeys behind them
Pleading, whispering that it was 'Stupid Cow's day, hun'
As Old Horse neighed all the way home

Candy Coloured Crosses

She wore white humming, soothingly
the little bundle in her arms, another case found in a cot
a pained whimper, a soft cry, whose beginnings lay crumbling
a face that grimaced, a smile regardless, wrapped in soft cloth
colour, now turning red

The baby's guardian only feet away, distant
perhaps praying to all gods, if only the little one could pull through
it was an accident and it wont happen again, not again
saying this over and over, clasping sweatly palms
with the nerve of neglect clutching a soft toy
the colour of candy

A doctor held a little finger, clammy
it was claimed the little one fell, if only
if only this child could speak, dispel the known fears
little eyes peeking through dispair, petrified, untrusting
lashes, feathery wisps and teary

The nurse prayed, doctors relentless, time against hope
