Guard
Guard
by Ted L Glines
Seeking peace (at last) at home
Emerging from Baghdad killing streets
Ejecting our desert camouflage
Yay! - 39th Brigade Combat Team
Arkansas National Guard (we da best!)
Iraq killed thirty-three of us
Never went home to hugs and dreams
America - Fort Sill - Oklahoma
Ready for home - family - life
Knowing we've given our very best
And thinking 'One Week-End a Month..My Ass! '
Now - after fifteen months of war - we'll
See if peace still lives at home
And - fists raised up - hear us yell

Box
Box
by Ted L Glines
working working
no time to play
postpone your dreams
for another day
eternity waits
an endless stage
for your childish glee
or dreams of rage
children know
magickal places
dragons and elves
grins on their faces
but growing up
is serious stuff

Forever Clouds
Forever Clouds
by Ted L Glines
Only a minute ago
I could see forever
and now muffling fog
fills my mind.
Only a brief minute
- what -
history and destiny were one
universe unfolding perfectly
now I cannot see the cliff
before my feet.
For one brief instant
the movie of life
froze on one clear frame
still-life of clear truth
epiphany
- happened -
the movie played on

I Hate Fudge
I Hate Fudge
by Ted L Glines
Chocolate fudge makes me cringe
with anxiety. Molasses fudge
will half kill me.
I hate fudge.
I have spent most of my life
in a valient fight
to rid the world of evil fudge,
one piece at a time.
In this imperfect world
full of fudge-lovers,
I am the last of
the Anti-Fudge Knights,
struggling against the growing tide
of sweet-tooths on one side
and fudge-makers on the other.
An impossible battle

DreamDiet
DreamDiet
by Ted L Glines
After fasting for
four long days
(old native shaman stuff)
cleaned out my system
saw visions (woo hoo)
I spent four more days
ingesting chocolate milk
nothing but chocolate milk
(Borden's Dutch Chocolate)
and I felt great
had lost some weight
and when I peed
my water came out clear
and thus I was enlightened
(old native shaman stuff)
(umm bum-bum-bum-bum umm...)
I suddenly realized

Butterfly Pig
Butterfly Pig
by Ted L Glines
Ah, the strange and elusive
butterfly pig flapping
flapping swooping gliding
but where
we said
where dost fly that butterfly pig?
we searched the piney woods
the hidden mountain valleys
we searched the whole world over
but have not found
that cleverly hidden nest
of the mysterious
butterfly pig
but we will find it
mark my words
we will ne'er give up
this quest

Cruel and Unusual
Cruel and Unusual
by Ted L Glines
Is lethal injection
cruel and unusual?
Obviously painful,
therefore cruel,
but is it unusual?
No, lethal injection is
the usual death penalty
in some states.
The way that Jesus died
was cruel
but not unusual;
Romans did it all the time.
We like to view the Cross
as the choice of Jesus
to save us sinners,
but He was given no choice.
Our Cross is a Roman

BlackOp
BlackOp
by Ted L Glines
Wet activity with no explanations
is the stock-in-trade of black operations.
Romeo and Juliet walking in the park,
just a tourist couple out for a lark,
there - on a bench - sits Papa - the boss,
this is one wet mission where we'll suffer no loss.
Romeo and Juliet - the best in fact
will never win an Oscar for their act,
always moving like a shadow in a dream,
simply known as the 'Alpha Team.'
'Charlie saw the Zulu, ' message on the phone,
meaning 'Charlie' would die - toppled from his throne.
Keshandra Shah had refused to parley
so now he was given the code name 'Charlie.'
Papa gets up and walks away,
his paper left laying on display,
two 'beta' capsules taped inside,
