Rearview Mirrors

The road we follow for a while
One by one, in line with time
With ourselves, yours and mine
Car after car, heart after heart
Pumping along the straight road

Under the bridge it brings us
I see the blinking light from your car
Signaling left
And, as much as I want to do the same
I push the lever down
And turn the other way

I hope that for as long as
I’m looking through my rear-view mirror
Soaking in the last sign of you
Of lights fading into the night
That you’re doing the same
