If I could (I) [De-aş putea (I)]

If I could but briefly seize
The wings of the passing breeze
I would quickly fly out then
In the world, and from above,
That I've cared for you, my love,
I would tell you once again.

Mercy wouldn't try to gain,
But if you could see the pain
That is always on my face,
Like the hasty breeze, I say,
All your hate would go away
And you'd show me warmth and grace.

O, poetry, refined, divine [Frumoasă sfântă poezie]

O, poetry, refined, divine,
Which were my God, my only goal,
Your pleasurable vain design
How much was cherished by my soul!

When I grew up like any child
You were my idol from the start,
I was dynamic, I was wild,
And I adored your subtle art.

Then, for my piety was deep
And your myth wanted to pursue,
Although you were so vain and cheap
I sacrificed my soul to you.

On the skies {Pe ceruri]

On the skies moon climbs anew
To its light I raise my brow
And my thought is tracing you
On the road where you are now.

You're a vagrant, it goes by
Like the life and worldly things,
To this earth few moments tie
Our short love with dainty strings.

You, this moon so proud and cool,
How I'd like to stop, my friend,
And enraptured, like a fool,
To behold you years on end.

The only luck... [Singurul noroc...]

The only luck and boon I knew
In this wide world, my only drive,
Was in my heart to wait for you
And always keep my wish alive.

The only plague which gave me pain
And made me feel a horrid fear
Was my tremendous bitter strain
For I had lost you, O, my dear.

Today, when my own heart is bare
And all the pains have gone away,
With irony I calmly stare
At my sweet dream of yesterday.

If I could raise my hand... [Să pot întinde mâna...]

If I could raise my hand to gently touch your brow
The hair strands lying there I'd put aside right now,
I'd make it clear and pure as lilies white, sublime,
An icon of sweet love to worship all the time.

But like an evening star you sparkle far away
And just for a short while from there you come my way,
Then vanish in thin air; however, in my mind
I worship every day your vision dear and kind.

Watching a portrait [La un portret]

I lose myself when watch your face
As if in holy joy I melt,
And in my soul returns with grace
The longing that on earth I felt.

And with a love complete and great
Your portrait gently I caress,
And I forget our feud and hate,
And I forget my sore distress.

I love you as I did before
With thoughts majestic and refined,
And with that feeling sweet of yore,
Which from the past comes back to mind.

If sigh crushed... [Că mi-ar zdrobi suspinul]

If sigh crushed down my soul and broke my heart in two
And if I felt my tears were darkening my eye
I wouldn't mind at all, but thinking about you
I'd like that all my life to suffer and to cry.

Yet, I am caught by fear when deem that comes a day
When through these bitter tears, so simple and sincere,
Your cherished gentle face, which in my heart did stay,
Will be erased for good and I'll forget you, dear.

I miss you still... [De dorul tău...]

I miss you still, though time has passed,
But in a way we are in touch,
You rule my soul, as in the past,
When it was loving you so much.

If now you told me just a word
I would be thrilled your voice to hear,
And all the statues in the world
I'd break for loving you, my dear.

And yet in silence I remain...
I tell my heart I miss you so;
But even though I'm torn by pain,
How much I love you, you don't know.

I'd like to come [Aş vrea să viu...]

I'd like to come to you today
Alas, I don't know how,
I ask in vain, no one can say
How you are doing now.

To whisper in your ear I'd like
A word or two anew –
Though in my heart I have a spike –
That I'm still loving you.

But I'm aware my wish is vain,
However hard I try,
And, as my longing gives me pain,
In misery I'll die.

Yet, you are always on my mind
Because I know your worth,
Although right now I am resigned
For lost you're on the earth.
