Ode to Barclay - a Very Special Cat
With slanted gaze in regal splendour,
Quiet and calm, to all, the lender,
By the Cotswold stone-flagged fender
sleeps the cat.
In coils of royal blackness, darkly
Silhouetted, yet not starkly,
Rests our favoured feline, Barclay,
on the mat.
From early life in high-street banking
To retirement, owners thanking,
Next to head of household ranking -
lucky cat!
And as I end my recitation,
Without fear of hesitation,
Off, I now, in admiration
take my hat.
