African Sunset

Her eye, an amazing ball of fire
Spherical, amber, orange-red
Without lashes, with glamour.
Colours fuse, red, pink, orange, yellow,
Mutating through that array,
Throwing colour behind dark clouds,
Giving them a pink backdrop.
Illusionary flames burn my soul.
Houses on the ridge flamoxed in amber.
I bask in her radiance,
Mop up that spectacle,
internalise it to lift my spirits.
I hear darkness tumble upon the land,
Crushing something in me.

Transitions: A Hobo's View

They once stood naked,
Embarrassed to swing,
Cellulites, whispered their ages; except
Scaled ones like snakes,
Shiny films, peel like plastic.

The hobo perches there engrossed.
Transitions impel him to freeze the beauty.
His dirty mind undresses them all,
He sees them all naked, his indulgence.
Captures; seasons, changes, the nascent.

Bulbs crack the earth, buds split into,
Cups, bells, trumpets; the fragrances.
Irritated; skin, the nostrils,
Irate eyes, bloodshot.
Warmth, laughter, surprises.

Today the parade; an assortment
Tinges; mauve, magentas, iodine, neon,
